wow sounds like someone is a little demanding. Does he sleep in his cage or do you have a sleep cage for him? I dont even bring my two out of their bedroom until I have made breakfast and everything is ready. Can he see you making his breakfast? How about if he can see yo,u everytime he screams stop what you are doing and look at him, hopefully he will see that screaming will make breakfast take longer. Have you tried having him in there with you, he may be screaming to be with you too...just thinkin out loud, Im sure someone else might have a better suggestion

It is said that birds are like toddlers, so treat him as one. Ignore the bad behavior and reward the good. If you give in, you are just making things worse and it will continue because you are rewarding him with his favorite foods.

animallovinmom, have you tried preparing a cold breakfast at night and feeding it first thing in the morning before he starts screaming?

Merlee, rather than ignore a bird for screaming, it's better to find out why the bird is screaming and then try and prevent the behavior from starting. I'm not a mother, but I do know that a lot of mothers ignore their babies when they cry. My sister has a 1 year old, who's almost two. She doesn't ignore him when he cries and he's one of the happiest babies I've ever met! A lot of people actually comment at how quiet he is!

I don't think ignoring a behavior is quite the way to go. It's not good communication skills with our birds. I certainly don't want to offer my hand for a bird to chew on until he or she decides to stop biting! I'd rather figure out why the bird feels the need to bite rather than telling the bird that I don't understand them so bite away.

He sleeps in his cage but I cover it up with a sheet at night, i dont know much about sleep cages or the pros and cons of them I will have to look into it. He can see me when I make breakfast if I uncover him first, I have not tried to have him in the kitchen though because of having the stove on and such makes me nervous. IF i uncover him I put him on top of his cage (play area where he likes to eat ) while i prepare it. If I stop and walk over during making breakfast he jsut screams louder as if to say REALLY hurry up !! so the only thing that SOMETIMES works is to not uncover him before breakfast is ready but even then he can hear me moving around and starts yelling half the time. I have not tried doing a cold breakfast before but i have only had him for a week so it may somthing i should try ?

Sounds like you haven't had him long, is he very young? Just weaned and used to AM feeding? Miss Monica makes some good points but he's screaming because it works. If the eggs/breakfast is the motivation then only reward when he displays the proper behavior that you want. he only trying to learn his place in the new flock and needs you to show him the ropes. If there are no rules then chaos is the result. Yes determine why he is doing the bad behavior but don't reward/condone it. My zons don't scream when they want something, they may try everything they can think of, but screaming doesn't get the desired results.

So you've only had him a week. He is adjusting to a new home. Wherever he came from had a different routine, different flock members, and different sights. I think you are being extremely unrealistic and a little bit selfish to expect a perfectly behaved parrot after only a week in your home. Perhaps a little bit of reading (on your part) is in order, as well as a re-examination of whether the expectations you had were unreasonable. Best of luck to Ceasar

That's a little rude don't you think? Maybe it's their first time owning a bird or maybe their other birds have never shown this kind of behaviour before. People come here for help and reassurance!

Yes he is new to our home but he is at least 20. I totally understand that he is still adjusting and everything but since this is really the only time he screams like that I was just looking for ways to change that behavior ..as someone else said he probably always got fed right away but the lady I got him from didnt really know that much about birds at all and proabably just let him scream without trying to correct it at all in fact she told me that. So no i am not being unrealistic or selfish because I dont expect him to be anywhere near perfect but I would like to teach him first thing that its not going to be acceptable.. I mean if he was biting the crap out of me everytime I held him I wouldnt be like oh no worries he is just adjusting I would be like ok why is he biting and how can I make him feel more comfortable and fix it. ....Thanks for all the tips guys this morning we went scream free because breakfast was made in advance that seemed to help maybe not always possible but at least it helped for today :)
