My 2 Amazons get along GREAT!

Hunter is my almost 14 year old YN Amazon (f), and Sam is my almost 9 MONTH old DYH (m).

They do NOT live in the same cage, however, they get to spend time together during time out. Mind you..I did NOT mean "THE" Time-out ;)

Here is a series of photos I took while Sam INSISTED on being REALLY close ;)

Thanks so very much, Wendy. :) I do NOT want to be an evil enabler....but having 2 Amazons, is 10 times the fun of having one. :54:

Niko and Ripley basically ignore them.
I should say this: Hunter's been with me the longest - by FAR. She didn't care when Niko came along, and Niko never cared much about her. There was NEVER any kind of aggression between the 2 of them, just sort of mutual understanding, or respect, because neither ever bothered with one another. Since Niko is SO ornery at times, I would NEVER put Hunter in harms way, and have therefore never put them close enough where one could "get to" the other. ;)

Then Sam came along. And Hunter and Sam got along from the beginning. I should say here that Hunter is VERY VERY mellow. Hunter got along with a pair of RS Eclectus I reared.

Now there's Ripley. Ripley is used to ALL kinds of company, from small conures to huge cockatoos, and everything in between.

Even though he is "used" to all other birds, I will try and prevent accidents. Both Hunter and Sam are flighted right now (it's winter). Hunter NEVER flies, unless she's really agitated or something scared her mighty fierce. Sam WILL fly. He'll fly to his cage, Hunter's cage, the couch and ME.

So far...so good. ;)

IMO, i think your lucky. The DYH is one of the hardest birds to socialize and you have the help of a good nape. I'd encourage their relationship. Good work, what you have is rare.

Adorable pics. Amazons can be so adorable. ;) A friend of my mine in Georgia had an Amazon and he was a total character. Anytime you would leave the house he would say "Bye-bye, I love you". He would also runaway from you yelling "No" if you were trying to get him to put him back in his cage and he didn't want to go. :D

I would definitely adopt another Amazon if I could be assured s/he and Queequeg would get along. If only birds could have play-dates pre-adoption to let them choose each other!

Beautiful amazons, love the play stand. Wish could get one for my parrots, but can't find any in the pet store here is Australia. :(

How about grapevine trees??? :D Tab and I've talked about this. I know you guys grow grapes, but there was another tree of some sort, too, and for the world of me I don't remember what type it was. :(

And THANK YOU!! :)

Thanks Richard! I totally agree, and I do feel blessed that the 2 of them get along so well, and yup, my Hunter is SO sweet and mellow, she made it easy for Sam to love her ;)

I always give them time together....numerous hours a day. They both enjoy it equally. :)

That is a GREAT idea about "trying" them out together before committing to adopt. IF you come across another Amazon, you could always ask if they'd allow it :D

Ha ha Wendy.. I do believe you are trying to sway me here LOL
I have often though about getting another Zon, but was worried how Codie may react:(

He has become quite aggressive just lately and I often wonder if having another one would be good company for him?

As I am writing this, I am looking round my room, thinking to myself.. Where would I put another Cage :11:

Me...trying to sway you? :54: I plead the 5th. ;)

I'd say definitely ask Richard for his opinion. When you say he's become aggressive, has he been trying to bite you more often? Sam DOES have his moments, but I won't ever let him deter me. I am not forceful with him, but VERY persistent.

Oh I'm SURE you'll have room for one more cage. :D It's the sweetest thing in the world when you hear Amazons "communicating". :)

For the last couple of Weeks now Codie has become very unpredictable! i.e when I go to get him out to put him on his Playstand he goes for me with a vengeance:( What I do is close the Cage door and try again 5 mins later.. I keep doing this until he comes out nicely:) It is like a battle of the wills.. Today it took 6 attempts for him not to lunge at me :(

I am very determined though and he knows that I will not let him intimidate me or get the upper hand! If I allow this, then he will get worse:( The signs are easy to see though as he fans his tail out and pins his eyes.. So far, I have managed to avoid bloodshed LOL. I really do not have a clue why he has suddenly become so aggressive... Some days he is totally sweet and other days I go through what I have today:(

Oh no...I'm so sorry Codie is being so ornery lately. I think he will outgrow this, I really, truly do. :) You are doing the EXACT right thing by not even allowing him to be temperamental with you. He will get the hint, I just know he will. :)

I don't think so....I believe FIG trees? Tab saw them when she drove somewhere, and she told me that they resembled Java trees. :)
