Kiwi is our BFA, and I cannot believe what I just saw him do! He was "playing" with his poop! He wasn't eating it or anything, but he was "peeling" up a dried poop on the base of his perch with the scooping part of his beak and kind of playing with it with his feet. Mind you, he has 2 perfectly good toys on the t-perch. Then he gave me the "I got caught" eye and scurried up his perch. Have you ever caught your zon doing something less-than normal like this lol?:green:

Monte..Scarlet macaw, Seminole...yellow napped amazon, Starburst... sun conure...Rain, cinnamon green cheek.
Idk that i'd call it less than normal... they get bored, they do "strange" things. In the wild they'd spend most of their time foraging for food...

So its our job as responsible owners to "entertain" them..

With more aggressive species, like scarlet macaws, boredom can lead to plucking and self mutilation..

Of course there are other factors sometimes. This is just my 2/100 :)

94lt1's probably right about the boredom.... 2 toys or not, they may not be stimulating enough for him. Now if he starts eating his presentations, look for some vitamin or mineral deficiency that he's looking for in the poops.....

To be clear, I haven't ever seen him do it before, I just thought it was a funny thing for him to do. I had just put a nut down there (obviously away from the poops) he had just gobbled up, so I think he may have really been looking for more treats. He was kind of in an "inquisitive" mood last night. Kiwi is beyond spoiled with toys, and we have him with us all the time when were home (since he isn't flighted, we take him from room to room on his perch, so he's always included). As for diet, the little crap eats better than we do lol. I don't think it was a behavioral or diet issue, just a strange little bird being a strange little bird. He is a rescue, and does some of the strangest things I have ever seen a parrot do (admittedly, he is a little nutty, but he is very loved in our home). I just thought someone else may have a funny story to add, I wasn't worried about what he actually did, as he's always doing something a little off lol.

OK, you've made progress, admitting, "As for diet, the little crap eats better than we do lol," that you are slave to a parrot is the first step in helping overcome these feelings of inadequacy you may be harboring.....

Don't feel bad, we have all had them at one point or another.....

This made me giggle out loud when he gave the oh crap I got caught look and scurried for his perch!! My green cheek will chew on his poop if it is on any kind of paper. I had to remove the paper from his top tray (under play stand on top of his cage) because he would chew all the poop spots. He does not chew on any other poop, if its on a perch etc. only the stuff on paper. It's gross and weird. They sure do some strange stuff huh?
