Travel cage

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good travel cage big enough for an amazon? We will b takin a 3day trip in a couple of months and there is no way we can take our huge cage..I need something that can fit in my car and that he can be in for a few days...

I have both the Wingabego and the Avian Adventures Posquito. The large Wingabego is really good for the car because they can't throw food out of it and they can see out. I also think it affords them greater protection in the event of an accident (mine belts into my seat like a carseat for babies) but, that said, it doesn't really give them enough room say when you get to your destination. The Posquito is probably better in that regard, but, it's heavy and bulky. I've seen the Kings Cage travel cage (which is very similar). It's aluminum and light weight. I may look into getting one of those next time they have a sale. Good luck on your choice.

I really like the King's Aluminum Carrier but it is out of my price range lol

I use a dog crate (my vet suggested it) I put several perches along with a few toys - food bowls attach easily. The only negative is that they can throw food out and there is no grate above the newspaper on the bottom. Both my Ekkie and my Amazon love theirs - they can see everything and I can see them easily....you can get the crates for under $50.

The only negative is that they can throw food out and there is no grate above the newspaper on the bottom. Were did you find a safe metal crate with the right bar spacing. I would love to know I found a few crates, but I never know if Rosie will get metal poisoning or not if she chews it and the spacing is usually almost 2"

Cooper they make a powder coated dog crate and foster and smiths carriers someone similar to it.

Well my favorite carriers by far are the plexiglass carriers you can put food and water dishes on them they can see out and they are very safe. They come with one perche you could add more and there's room in the for toys. They are great IMO other then the macaws ones are a little tight and long for a macaw to stay in, but the amazon sized ones are good. They are expensive though so I'd probably opt for one of the others mentioned

I still havn't been able to find one with the right bar spacing, all the crates I've seen in person have a huge bar spacing(galahs can go up to 1"). I bring a knitting measuring tape so I can check. They often have a few places that are extra wide too, usually near the bottom.

Another member loaned me hers for a weekend to pick up a yellow nape parrot and I thought it was fantastic. It fits perfectly on the back seat of my truck and the price is reasonable. I will order one for myself soon.

I've heard of many "travel" cages for sale on the internet. I can't recommend any. I ve never bought one. Yes i make my own. The saying, "you get what you pay for" seems to apply. Yes a dog crate will work when you need it ,,,,, but.A good travel cage is as important as their "home" cage,, IMO. I take my bird everywhere , she needs to be safe and comfortable in it as she would be in her "home " cage. If i sit the travel cage on their home cage, they would most times sleep in the travel cage. Spend the money for a good one and USE IT.

Sorry, just my .02 worth on the topic. Nothing like a well socialized amazon. A good travel cage is essential.

Hmm I will look around for you I use a dog carrier for my galah to go into as usually I am just taking him to an outreach not on trips or anything like that.
