So I just got a new double yellow head from a man who was originally goin to breed him he doesn't hve a bad and is on a bad diet I think he is healthy
I'm just wondering how long it will take him to warm up the owner said he would bark and thinks he says words. Does he talk when he warms up? Should I treat him with apples from my hand? And the owner said if he is outta the cage he would step up in around 3 days
So I was thinking should I have him groomed by someone else and then act as his savior to gain his trust

He's pretty.
There is no formula to determine how long it will take for him to warm up, it can happen within a few days, weeks, or months. Gaining his trust is the key. Treating him with apples/veggies/nuts from your hand is a good start.
Giving him a safe and happy place helps and good diet of food. Fresh fruits/veggies and pellets. As he gets comfortable he may start sharing his vocabulary with you, this really depends on the bird.
If he needs grooming, nail and/or wing trims I would get someone else to do it, also a vet visit to make sure everything is ok.
Congrats!

Keep talking to him, keeping offering him treats, eat meals with him could go a long way.
Are you keeping him in quarantine? You don't want to expose your ringneck to him until it is safe.
The rest of gaining trust is taking time, he needs to settle in and learn that your safe.

His precious owner has him on alot of sunflower seeds and I'm tryin to change him of seeds into roudy bush

Should I take him somewhere or should I have someone come over
And is it true that if someone else grooms him and then uses towel and I come in after he is groomed will I look like his hero?
Also the orinal owner said that he doesn't fly would that mean his wings were cut to young and never got a chance to learn

To start to teach him step up do I wait for him to get outta the Cage then get him or what?

Your choice on whether to take him or have someone come to you.
Well you might look like the hero, at very least you won't be the erson he hates because of it.

About the not flying, hard to say. That could be one reason, or he just doesn't feel comfortable enough to do so, or he doesn't want to. Some Amazons prefer to walk. Only time will answer that question.

Stepping up, Offer a stick or your arm both when in the cage and when out and see how he reacts, from there you can determine his comfort level about this and what training method would be best. You just got him so don't push too hard, establishing trust is the most important thing.

Is it true if you get him groomed by someone else he will think you are his savior and be his hero

So the owner said he can't fly does that mean he had his wing clipped as a baby?

Also how does on transition him to roudy bush

And is it true they begin to use there vocabulary as they become more comfortable?
And how do I win there trust?

Alright ill take him somewhere
And is there a way to determine his age by his head and the amount of yellow?
Ohh alright ill just wait

He bit me and I backed away should I maybe think of putting a towel on my hand for me to be more safe and won't back down? Someone told me to never back down because it makes him feel like if he bites ill back down?

What should I leave playing for him while I'm at school

Nope can't tell his age.

Right now you have to learn to read his body language and try not to get bitten.
He needs to know that you are not scared of him, but you respect him as well. SO backing away a small amount and talking nic is how I do it.

I leave cartoons on for my guys or classic rock radio. You have to see what he likes.

Hello juliansb1. :) BEAUTIFUL DYH you got there! My guess is that he's over 1 year old, due to his extensive red on his wings already. DYH Amazons "usually" reach their full adult coloring by the time they are around 8 years old or so.

As for his wings: If his wings are currently clipped, they WILL regrow as he molts and grows new feathers. :)

As for his nails: Take him to an Avian Vet if possible and have him checked thoroughly. The vet will also do his nails if needed. :)

As for his diet: Here are some helpful links

Be patient with your new bird. Take it one day at a time. :)

I really like your picture of your new bird. It will just take time for him to get used to you. My DYH is quiet around people she doesn't know. But, she talks when there is music or the TV playing.
