Here we go!

The battle of the diet:

Here Skittles cracks me up. We have built a morning routine of sharing a muffin ( I assure you I'm eating the largest part) When I pull the paper cup off the bottom of a muffin Skittles drops to an almost prone position with his wings just slightly pulled away from his body ... and he QUIVERS! As I step in close he reaches for the muffin almost falling off the cage. (One of the more distubing parts of this ordeal is watching him "rearrange" his crop as he works on the muffin. It's almost freaky! After the muffin, I clean his water dish, fill it up and give him a chance to drink before I put it back in it's holder.)

Yesterday, on a whim, I stepped up with a ripe banana, for some odd reason, my little tropical chicken, likes bananas. Up until yesterday he ran from them. I totally pealed it, pulled off a piece and started munching on it. Skittles stepped up and started eating off the bigger piece. We had a little more this morning. (Oh, he doesn't think much of raspberries, although he did try one.)

That other person!

My wife is getting worse, I think I may have to get rid of her! o_O
She did try to latch the cage two nights ago, after Skittles had put himself to bed. He charged the gate, tail feathers spread and beak wide open. It scared me and I was watching from the other room, LOL. The more he tries to get her, the less she wants to try to get to know him. (It reminds me of the Redneck joke about the wife who gave her Redneck husband the ultimatum that either she, or the dogs, HAD to go! The Redneck's response, "I'm gonna miss her!)

Dr. Skittles and Mr. Cujo:

Visitors are not usually welcome. However, yesterday, my wife's sister and brother-in-law arrived from Idaho. After an evening of visiting, Skittles DID NOT retreat to his inner sanctum (cage) and he didn't get snotty with me. They will be here until Saturday, let's see how long Dr. Skittles lasts and/or how long it takes for the little demon to come out.

Grooming 101:

While we usually enjoy a good head scratching (both of us) I had yet to actually find a pin feather, until two nights ago. After reading here and watching a few Utube videos, I gently attacked the new found feather with my thumb and fore finger. I was amazed to find the coating from the feather almost disintigrate as I removed it, leaving my two digits feeling as if I had just dipped them in baby powder. (Is that normal or am I nutz?)

Rearranging the furniture:

Several weeks back I had purchased a chain with a bell and several layers of colored wooden blocks. Skittles loves to play with the bell, has DESTROYED the blocks ... and last night I found him playing with something small and metallic. The chan and bell were in the cage foor. Skittles had unscrewed the retaining ring and removed it from the cage.
These are creative and clever little chickens :green: ... aren't they?

Thanks for the update. Emmy used to lean forward like that and shake her wings when she wanted to go somewhere. She wanted us to pick her up. Now she flies, so she goes where she wants. (Actually, now we're having a hard time keeping her out of certain areas.)

You're hilarious, Jay!!

GREAT update on your tropical chicken, HAHAHAH!

And yes, it's perfectly normal for the feather shaft to disintegrate. :)

Every now and then I learn something new (about almost anything) that just tickles the heck out of me.

I knew that the new feathers were encapsulated to keep them from being damaged as they exited the skin. But, when it turned to a silky talcum powder consistency, it was not only amazing that the good Lord created a system that was so "user friendly" from the bird's view, but also explained a lot about the bird dander all over the cage. As a college biology major (from a hundred years ago) I never seem to tire of learning new amazing stuff about animals.

I knew they created dust, never much thought about the reasons why the dust was created.

Our little fids :green: are amazing creatures! :)

Day three with the visitors, Skittles still hasn't begun his usual revolt; although, he is being friendly to me and he hasn't eaten anyone, he has, for the most part, stopped talking. It's like he doesn't want anyone else to know he can talk.

Tonight my son and daughter are planning on showing up with the grandkids and the girlfriend's kids, plus a few friends. That should put 8 to 12 adults and 7 to 10 children in the house. Now we'll test Skittle's ability to tolerate intruders.

Hehe, good luck! I'd retreat to bed if I knew I was having that many visitors.

Thanks for the updates!

I have been know to take up a defensive position in the recliner, in front of the TV and spend a couple of hours checking my eyelids for holes. (ZZZZZZZZZ)

Hehe. Great little story you've shared with us! I love the part about him adjusting his crop to the muffin, I've seen it and yes it's weird!
