I was told he's pure Panama, but I'd like to hear what you think before I adopt him.
Thanks!

Yes he appears to be Mostly if not pure Panama. Many pans do have the black spot on the upper mandible. Of course it's hard for us to look at a pic and be completely positive, i would really need the bird in hand.

What difference does it make unless you intend on breeding the bird. If the bird needs a home and you have a home available and wanting to adopt a bird, give this bird a home:)

He's probably paying about twice as much for a Pan vs YC, that's the way it is around here. YC babies go for 300-400 and pans 800-1200

Do you have any additional pictures of the pretty guy?

Looking at the picture you provided, the lower mandible looks dark to me, therefore I think he's a YC. I do not think he's a pure Pan. :) The lower mandible in Pans is light horn colored.

Are we talking about you pay 1200 for the Baby and you wean it at home ro fully weaned baby ?

Thanks for the awesome pics Wendy, Look closely at the cere in the OP's pic. The Yc cere is much darker. However hybrids are so very common nowdays. There's a lack of Pans and the more common YC is often used as a mate. that and many small breeders don't realize the difference. Of course with the big difference in price, there's a tendency to try and meet the demand.

No unweaned would be the lower end of the price range.

He was hatched in January and is fully weaned.

My thoughts are that if you bill a bird to be a pure Panama Zon, then it should be just that. And yes, I'd be paying more for him if he was pure than if he was a hybrid.

Unfortunately that's the only image I have of him at the moment. I've just e-mailed them for some more information.

OH, Ok, I see now. Your not adopting him, you are thinking of buying him. But yes, I can see your problem. I wasn't thinking of the price difference between the two birds. If I were to buy a bird touted to be a specific species and they weren't, I would be ticked off as well. But if I adopt a bird and pay little to no money for it, I wouldn't be as bothered by that as I would the bird being healthy.

I was going to adopt what I thought was going to be a Panama, but found out it was a DYH instead. Trying to be very careful making such a big decision for our family.
