The next photo of the month should be Messy Beaks, LOL. I handed out ripe guavas ,only had 2 and cut into quarters. I'd get a picture but wasn't fast enough. I'm gonna have to check that tree again ,soon. If you can find them, give guava a try , all eight zons loved it. Opps 7 out of 8.

I will second that motion for a messy beaks photo contest !

Richard, I will have to get some Guava tomorrow at the international farmers market. I will let you know how the girls like it. Thanks for the suggestion, I am alway's looking for new things to give them. Last night they had dragon fruit, and it was all eaten up.

We have one of those in the yard, but zero fruit this year?? I tried some of the greener guava, but they didn't like them much.

LOVE the "messy beaks" idea. Maybe we can do that one for October. We'll be going with "show me your wings" for this month. ;)

How old is your tree? Has produced fruit before? I've heard that once the tree gets too old it won't produce as much fruit. Also, certain types need pollination.

I planted it last year from a 10 gal container, had 2 fruit on it. This year it put on tons of growth but no fruit. Same with the star fruit. I planted a strawberry guava i dug up and it has struggled but survived so far, zero fruit. I know a lot of the fruit trees haven't done much in the first year or two but seem to "take off" after awhile.

Yeah. If they're young I've heard of it taking a bit. Our tree is about 20 years old.

ETA: I found that my amazon and the other one don't mind the green guava as long as it's pink inside. I just cut it in half and serve them some. I do however know that they like them fresh. During the season my amazon got so picky he wanted them cut from that moment (because who doesn't want to go get a few guavas at 6 am and at noon everyday?). Now that the season is ending he'll take it as long as they're not over a week.

Mine seem to like the yellow outside, red inside and soft. If they smell strong ,then they're ripe , i should have feed them less ripe first. I think i spoiled them giving perfectly ripe ones first.

That's how mine were in the beginning but then they saw how much fun it was to "help" get them from the tree so they stopped being so picky about it. :)

Wish "my tree" was in my yard. Have you tried feeding the strawberry guavas yet?

No. I haven't. I've only fed them from my guava tree as the season was in full bloom when I got my amazon.

I'm going to have to go and try and find some. If they like it I'll grow a tree for them. :)

Milo's favorite tree is a baby mango tree. He likes hanging out on it even though he's too big for it. Lol

ETA:

Here he is on "his" mango tree.

That's how my DYH came out of her cage today after dinner. She just loves these mashed yam/carrot balls.....LOL
I had to place a kitchen towel on top of her cage for her. She usually goes and starts biting this towel to clean her beak.....Works for me, at least it's better than shaking it off all over the room....LOL
