I use small bits of cheese for training. Most parrots love it! Swiss may be one of the best because it has less fat and more calcium than other cheese. Other than that you use whatever the bird loves best.

I didn't think it was a good idea for parrots to have cheese since they are lactose intolerant? That's why I've always steered away from it. Maybe pieces of hard boiled egg instead? I just love the parrot smilies!:grey:

When training her, I offer her plain popcorn or nuts.
She loves cashew plain, almonds and raw peanuts.
BUT she will do anything I ask her to, just for popcorn.
During the day, whilst working, she rings her bell and says popcorn please.
Now the bell never stops ringing LoL
Great day

Cultured dairy products (yogurt, cheese, etc) have much less lactose than milk. They cannot digest it, but with cheese as an occasional treat they would not get enough to be affected by it.

I use walnuts - I think Max would wash my car for me if I "paid" him with walnuts. Just like people, each bird has his/her "favorite thing", the trick is finding what it is. And like people, it's usually something that they shouldn't have a lot of...like cheese and bags of walnuts.
