Z found his flock!

After months of interviewing and declining prospective homes for the little green demon, he's finally found his people!

It's no secret that my little zonzilla wants to remove my liver. In fact, he's tried on quite a few occasions. But I found his main trigger... it's Blue. For some reason that little green demon wants to mate with my B&G. Uh... I don't think that's gonna work dude!

In any event, I knew he wasn't happy here from day 1 and I knew that eventually he'd find where he belongs. I'd turned away quite a few people because I didn't think it was a good match and I didn't think he'd prosper. He was either distant and uninterested or downright mean and biting with nearly everyone he'd met. I was close to the point where I started to think he was just going to be here forever.

Then it happened. Yesterday afternoon I got a text message asking me if he was still available. Hmm.. Yes. I guess technically he is, though I wasn't too confident that he was going anywhere. After spending an hour on the phone with the interested parties, explaining how Zachary isn't the kind of parrot you can just come right in and handle; how it takes him weeks, perhaps months to warm up to everyone and how there are just certain people he point blank doesn't like, I invited them over to meet him.

I had no expectations. None. I figured this was going to go the same direction as anyone else who's ever come to meet him. They'd try to get him to step up, he'd draw out some blood. Lather... rinse... repeat.

It was a nice couple. A husband and wife and older children who are 14 and 17. Just the parents came, as the bird is somewhat of a surprise for xmas. In fact, I really liked these people, and much like Z, I don't particularly like anyone.

They come in and we bring Z out. First the man offered his hand and much to my surprise, Z stepped right up to him, was calm, chatty and making those happy amazon sounds that I don't hear all too often. He offered Z to his wife and the same scenario... stepped right now. No shyness. No aggression. No hesitation.

I stood here in disbelief. Z has met dozens of people, both casual friends of mine and interested adopters and I've never seen him respond like this! I was happy for him. He found his missing flock!

I knew the couple were a little low on funds because it's xmas. My original adoption fee was solely to cover his vet bill and nothing more but with such a great match, I worked with them on the costs and split it. I have no doubt he'll be well taken care of and well loved with this family. He'll be here until xmas eve. The adoption is final and all things are set, but I offered to keep him until then as to help make the surprise that much more of a surprise for their children on xmas morning. He's been here for 6 months. 10 more days won't make a difference and it'll give me a chance to replenish his toys for them.

Z gets a new home.... I get to keep my pancreas! What a great xmas present for all involved!

Oh... don't get me wrong Pinky.... There's ALWAYS entertainment around here.

You forget I have Quinn the CAG now. Her favorite line has become "What the hell?!" which was promptly repeated directly after I cleaned the living room and my sons decided to build blanket forts no more than 15 minutes after I was done.

I've been checked out for a while dealing with life. I need to catch you guys up on all the action here

Oh my, you've made my day GinaF!!!!!
Such happy and cheerful news!!!!!!
I wanted to push the "thank you" bar few times, but it wouldn't allow me....
What a wonderful thing you did for this bird. Just like some people say here on this forum, each demon bird has a key to his/her sweetness.
I am so happy Z found his flock and you can put your pack of bandages back to the drawers....;).
Good and peaceful the rest of the year and Holidays to you!

I'm so happy that you have found a great match for your Zonzilla!! I, too, will miss reading your posts about him. However, even more than that, I've really missed reading your posts. I hope your life is becoming less chaotic, and that your son is doing better.

Welcome back!

oh don't worry.. he's still got 10 days to remove my vital organs. If he's aware of this, I'm sure he'll consider it a challenge. I do want to have his cage squeaky clean for his new family and a fresh grooming done for them yet. It's bound to happen!

That's GREAT news!!! I'm not keen on giving birds as presents like this couple is doing for their kids, and it is a good think that Z seems to really like them, but do you wonder how he will respond to the kids on Christmas morning?? OMG I hope he doesn't want to remove their liver! LOL Meeeerry CHRISTmas!! Mmwaa ahahah.....

Just put the liver in a "to go" box, with a side of fava beans...
