Today was slightly emotionally- I was missing my Jackie boy so so very much, and with tears streaming down my face I went on Craigslist and started looking for amazons...I saw a wonderful 47 yr old DYH named Zeek. Which in turn spurred the "I want another bird" conversation with hubby.

I'll have to wait until we're in our new house and everyone's settled in and things are situated, but after that I'm free to get an amazon :D :D :D

Sooooo.... Now it's a question of which species??? What's your favorite and why?

Alexandrines because they are exceedingly, gratuitously and ubiquitously GREEN!!!

Well... you did ask... :)

I work with a bunch of young Amazon's, and my favorites are the DYH and lilac crowned. I also really love the orange winged Amazon's. They all love baths and some "sing" when I spray them. I'm glad your getting your wish, best of luck and hugs to you, it sounds like your really need this. I kinda get what your going through and I hope you find the perfect new amazon :)

Aww thank you!

I's prefer one with a sweet disposition because my husband is still scared of amazons (Jackie was always after his flesh and blood  lol).

I love lilac crowned amazons. I went to my local good bird store and they always have amazons but my face is this lilac crowned amazon that no one wants because he's aggressive to everyone except me he always hops on my arm and hangs out with me while I shop and he's so sweet and funny!!!!!

And whhhhhhyyy is he not at home with you??? ;) lol.

There's a couple bird stores 30-45 minutes north of me...maybe one of these days I'll have to go visit them if they have any amazons.... see if a bird picks me.

You've had a zon before so i'll spare you the"personality is more important than species" post. There are a few basic stereotypes, what are important traits for you?? IMO you can never go wrong with a young Panama hen, the #1 companion amazon. Matter of fact,,, i have a 15 yr old xbreeder hen that is very sweet and needs a home. Wish you could come visit "Baby Girl".

Shirre, HUGS to you!!! I know how much you miss your Jackie boy!!!! :( The void they leave in our heart is so painful.

You'll make a phenomenal amazon parront. Look how far you came with Jackie!!!

I'm confident the right bird will find YOU when the time is right. :)

Important traits would be- a sweet and gentle disposition, a little on the quieter and less excitable side, and will live in an active household.

Do you have any pictures or videos you can send me of Baby Girl?

Yep. I have to concur with Henpecked and encourage you to consider getting a Panama. They are sweet, comical and a joy to be around.

Our YCA is amazing. He is very sweet, and only screams first thing in the morning:)
I think that in the course of looking, the perfect 'zon will end up picking you:) I am so happy for you, and it is a testament to Jackie that you want another amazon.

I would look into Yellow Shouldered Amazons if you can find one. Girls are super sweet. My YSA steps up to almost anyone, something I can't see my DYHA doing ever.....:)
My YSA is very sweet, hardly ever makes noise, very smart, and likes to play.
It's great if you can take any Zon in need of home. Good luck!
