Here is Scooby and Meadow sitting on the top of one of the kitchen chairs. I am very cautious when placing any of my birds together. Scooby is a 9 year old Chaco Bluefront male and Meadow is a 6 year old Yellow Nape female. Could they ever fall in love and raise a family ? Who knows. I just think it is a cute picture. I found the pic of the two birds on the kitchen chair.

You mean Scooby is a CHACO Blue Front. No such thing as a "chocolate" Blue Front, lol. ;)

Yes, they absolutely "could" bond and try and breed, but I would VERY strongly recommend against ever breeding ANY companion Amazon, and would never advocate breeding 2 different species.

I would bet that's an auto correct mistake.

I'm another one that's opposed to hybridization. They are both gorgeous as is.

Jan. 20, 2014,
Thank you Wendy. You are absolutely right. I just thought the store said "Chocolate". It is 'CHACO".

Sorry I'm new to birds but was curious about the 'companion' part. Is there a way to prove a bird in some way like with dogs? (I relate best with dogs) Why is it bad to not breed companion Amazons?

"Companion" means that they are pets, bonded to peoples not birds.Yes companion zons make poor breeders. Chances are they would try and kill any bird you put them with. If they did take a mate they would no longer be companion pet. You can't have it both ways.

Thanks a lot for the answer. That makes sense. Do all birds bond with just one or the other and just one being only? Thanks.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
My foster nape and my red lored amazon were hysterical together... and did all sorts of courting dances. They were buddies, but they never mated.

They did, however, dance around on the big playstands making all sorts of odd noises at each other, and preening each other...

You did not dare approach one or the other while the little courting dance was going on, because they worked each other into that amazon overload state...

Once they were done, they were both shoulder birds. But not until they were done.

And actually there is a chocolate raspberry MUTATION blue front, which is quite possibly the rarest, and most beautiful of all the mutations...

Howard's got them, and as far as I know, he's the only one in the world who does.

$80,000.00 each though!

They could definitely bond, and that doesn't necessarily mean they would breed. Just be sure to supervise them until you're POSITIVE they can be nice to each other. Amazons can bond for life, but they can also fight and inflict nasty wounds if they don't like each other. Lucy and Barney are different species, but have been a "bonded" pair for 40 years. Absolutely inseparable. They haven't ever mated though (not that anyone would ever want them to anyways).

P.S. Theres nothing "wrong" with poor Barney, he's been that way for 20+ years. Vet says he has the parrot equivalent of male pattern baldness We think he's part turkey buzzard, and Lucy apparently thinks he's price charming lol :)
