Amazons in love ?

Jan. 20 , 2014

Here is Scooby and Meadow sitting on the top of one of the kitchen chairs. I am very cautious when placing any of my birds together. Scooby is a 9 year old Chaco Bluefront male and Meadow is a 6 year old Yellow Nape female. Could they ever fall in love and raise a family ? Who knows. I just think it is a cute picture. I found the pic of the two birds on the kitchen chair.

Re: Amazons in love ?

You mean Scooby is a CHACO Blue Front. No such thing as a "chocolate" Blue Front, lol.

Yes, they absolutely "could" bond and try and breed, but I would VERY strongly recommend against ever breeding ANY companion Amazon, and would never advocate breeding 2 different species.

I would bet that's an auto correct mistake.

I'm another one that's opposed to hybridization. They are both gorgeous as is.

Jan. 20, 2014,
Thank you Wendy. You are absolutely right. I just thought the store said "Chocolate". It is 'CHACO".

Sorry I'm new to birds but was curious about the 'companion' part. Is there a way to prove a bird in some way like with dogs? (I relate best with dogs) Why is it bad to not breed companion Amazons?

Re: Amazons in love ?

"Companion" means that they are pets, bonded to peoples not birds.Yes companion zons make poor breeders. Chances are they would try and kill any bird you put them with. If they did take a mate they would no longer be companion pet. You can't have it both ways.

Thanks a lot for the answer. That makes sense. Do all birds bond with just one or the other and just one being only? Thanks.
