Hello ,,,

This is my first post and I want to introduce myself , I'm a new bird owner and I fall in love with Amazon , I bought it as a Yellow Nape but yesterday I realised that it's Yellow Crowned , and now I don't know if I shall keep it or take it back to the market and get the yellow nape , is there a big difference between them ? and is the yellow crown a good Amazon or from the low grade of amazons ? I need your advice ,,,

I have a yellow crowned Amazon named Rocky , he can be a hand full some days, you definitely can read his body language most of the time , he loves my hubby so I'am his second choice , I just have to watch his moods

if you fell in love with the bird, then i think you should keep him/her all the same :D all birds are individuals ;) would love to see photos of your new baby!

Nothing wrong with a Yellow Crown, but I would tell the person who sold you the bird of the mistake. Now, if in your part of the world, a Yellow Nape costs more than a Yellow Crown, you might ask for the difference.

While I don't consider any pet bird 'the lower end' of the market, the Yellow Crown does have a good reputation for talking ability. The Yellow Nape is supposed to have exceptional mimicking ability. However, I owned a Lilac Crown that could beat either one of them in a talking contest. She spoke two languages, thanks to a Spanish friend who visited, and could mimic any sound she heard. She fooled us many times with the telephone ringing, and one time had us in an uproar by crying like a baby, causing us to think our friend had left the baby behind. There were no cell phones back then, and we frantically searched for the baby until we realized it was Salee making the noise. However, she was a shy talker. She wouldn't talk if you looked her in the eye. Walk away, though, and she'd talk up a storm.

If you like your bird and the bird likes you, then keep the bird. Ain't nothing wrong with owning a Yellow Crown. I have one and she's a joy. She's an Amazon, though, and you have to respect her moods. Although, when food is involved, she's your best friend.

I hope this one works out for you. Considering you may have him/her for up to 75 years, the cost is minimal.

Good luck!

That's not a bad price. The cost must have come down some. Good looking Nape. Welcome to the forum.
