I've been a ghost for a while since focusing on school again. But while browsing through Tumblr I saw this...

Its a Saint Vincent Amazon, and oh my gosh! They're beautiful!!

He is stunning! That isn't a mutation either, that is their normal colorations. St. Vincents are extremely rare and if I'm not mistaken, extinct in the wild. They are the Spix Macaw of the amazon family.

I looked it up and I am happy to see I was mistaken. They WERE at one point on the brink of extinction, but wild populations have started to recover and captive-bred conservation efforts are in place. Though all the articles on them seem to be several years old. Apparently, you can legally buy them if they are captive bred (if you have an extra $10,000+ laying around). Only $10,000? Jk. Actually I'm surprised St. Vincent's is not more than that. I'm sure not many people breeding in the US, and obviously for conservation purposes only.

Im surprised too, i would have thought they'd be priced at 50k, at the least

Yes, they still exist in the wild, but barely...

The surviving colonies took a major hit from one of the hurricanes a few years back. Wiped out an entire nesting area. Set the captive breeding program back years.

The St. Lucia amazon is now more endangered than the Vincens.

I still think the Festiva is one of the prettiest...

Hot 3's (BFA, Napes, DYH) probably have the biggest birdie personalities of the zons...

Lilac crowns and mealey's are the opposite of the Hot 3's. They are the most laid back and even tempered.

I remember reading about the St Vincent Amazon in BirdTalk magazine about 20 years ago but I don't think I've seen anything else about them since.
IIRC, the pics with the article weren't very good. Based on that, I remember thinking that they were kind of plain looking. After seeing the pics posted here, i don't think that any more.

They're even more beautiful in real life
The ACTP in Berlin is one of the biggest and most successful breeders of these guys, along with a few other endangered and rare parrot species.
