Hi there, my Mexican Red head Buddy, joined our family Saturday and today I am going to try to take him to his first vet visit because he really needs a beak trim. I have a small, plastic, dog carrier I got for him last night. Now I'm trying to plan an approach to get him from his big cage into the carrier. He's definitely not a dummy so I don't know what the best approach is to get him in it. He loves popcorn so I am thinking about showing him popcorn and putting it in the box but honestly, I don't think that's going to fly with him. Second thought, grab him with a towel and be prepared for a beak slashing. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!:green1:

I think using a treat in the carrier is a great idea! That will be so much better if he goes into it by himself. Does he have any toys he really likes that you could put in there if the food doesn't work?
Good luck at the vets!

I agree. Going to the vet is very traumatic - for the bird AND the parront! (Ask me, I cry every time and he's never even been to the vet for something serious ). Best to make the transport arrangement as stress free as possible. Can the visit wait a few days? The reason I ask is that a few days may give you the time to get Buddy used to the box and not see it as something bad or scary. I'm currently desensiting my Percy to his travel box by leaving it around so he can go in and out as he wishes. Each time he does go in, I reward profusely and immediately allow him to come out for a cuddle if he wants.

Thank you. I cancelled our appointment today. I gave him a strawberry, he tasted it and slung it hitting me in the face, then I gave him some broccoli and peas in a NEW bowl. It wasn't the right bowl, he hasn't eaten today. I put three popcorn in the new bowl so now the bowl is ok, but he hasn't tried the veggies. I then showed him the carrier and he won't go near it so I'm going to wait. He's doing fine eating with his over grown beak and I think I've rocked his boat enough today, lol. I love watching his moods and reactions. But I love seeing him like the new things. I just don't want to push too much. Thanks for the advice.
