She is pretty affectionate and I was wondering what kind she was! She is pretty big and heavy with a grip like a hawk....

Hmmm is it possible you've got a Mealy Amazon on your hands? I've only ever seen one in person before, but it looks familiar. :) I'm definitely no 'zon expert, but that's my guess. (They also tend to be the more affectionate/cuddly of the zons, so I've read!!) :D
Is this the new girl at the shelter? :D

I've also been playing with Max the blue and gold.... haha we had a mishap the first time I tried to get him out yesterday. He got up too high and went all bratty on me. Eventually we agreed he would step up from his door....second time he stepped up from inside! Today he has just been asking for head scratches and doesn't seem to want to come out...

I praise you for your guts of steel! If it were me, unless the macaw approached me and very politely asked to step up on my hand, we would be admiring each other from a distance for a while. :p
Max seems like quite the gentleman, though. Gotta love having a bird that size be such a sweetie, eh? :D

lol I'm still slightly nervous but generally we are okay with each other. There are quite a few macaws here who try to eat me through the cage though. And Jeannes scarlet I'm pretty sure is cursing me out every time I change his food and water...

Hey, if you can handle Folger(Or atleast hold him after seeing what he's capable of on another person!) then I'm sure you can handle a Mealy or Max.
P.S What's the new girls name? You seem like you're leaning more toward the removal of the bed and adding the mac.. Haha :D

How old is she? Almost looks like a younger yellow naped amazon, but it's hard to tell from the photos.

Yellow Nape. :)

Not all Napes have extensive yellow on their neck. My hen is 15, and I can literally count her yellow feathers using both my hands. ;)

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Looks like a nape to me too.

Mealeys tend to have more blue on the top of the head.

It's possible, but if I had to guess, I'd guess nape.

Just left the shelter.... This girl is one honking big amazon. I thought rosey was a big boy she's huge, big and heavy.....

This is the zon we were thinking would be my match.... guess again!! I walked in and she pinned her eyes, back of her neck ruffled and her tail splayed. Tried talking to her, wouldn't take nut seed or treat from me. Came back after a while same thing.... she reacted same to my husband.... so guess who won't be coming home!!

But stranger then strange, other little amazon that is new was interested. ... strange why.... THAT one was said to be afraid and/or aggressive with all people. Go figure!! Have some pics and video when I get home :)

She barely has a hint of red on the wings. I think everyone is right, most likely a yellow nape tho she could have some mealey in her blood just cause she is HUGE, just overall big, Tor jokes she has feet like a hawk, but I was thinking more like large too, just thick and wide.

I look forward to what she'll look like a while on good food, she is a pretty girl now, but just doesn't have that beautiful vibrant colors you think of with Zons.
