My husband and I went to the flea today. There is a man that sells large birds. Today he had a double yellow head, a mealy, a military macaw, yellow head and a green cheek. It was interesting to see them. We were surprised that the dyh is so much larger than our Buddy. Beautiful but I do not like animal sales at the flea. Like the green cheek was missing 2 twos, I asked what happen, old injury, but the man didn't answer. I walked away with a sad heart, got home and loved Buddy. Bittersweet.

Sorry the dyh was bigger than my RCA. The mealy and the dyh were close in size.

It's amazing when you see the bigger zons, isn't it? I had a tucuman, who was also small -so when I met a yellow nape for the first time I was surprised!

Getwozzy, I'm with you there. My husband was fascinated too. He's been reading up on amazons and cockatoos, as well as watching youtube videos. We were both naming the birds and I was surprised at how much we have learned. My husband said the dyh was beautiful and it was. Of course my thought is down the road, getting a second bird so Buddy has another bird to interact with. I won't buy one, not after seeing so many rescues and the need to find good homes for so many. And my honey said no more birds, Buddy is loud, lol. Last weekend he was yelling so much while I was working in the kitchen so we rolled him to where he could see us. Love him. So we'll see what happens way down the road.

Isn't it amazing how loud they are?! You wouldn't think those tiny guys can cause your ears to ring LOL ;)

I say if you want another bird, get one as a companion for the both of you, and if buddy gets along then that's an added bonus!

If you want another zon and are comfortable with the size of your RCA then maybe look at some lilac crowns- they are supposed to be very sweet and "quieter" (but that's just from what I've read)

You could also look into Galahs- they're in that same size category, so they don't have the huge beaks like umbrellas. My galah can be loud sometimes, but is not as "intense" as an amazon call.
