Dear all :)
I have been offered the opportunity to adopt Pickles sibling from a friend of mine. I have the space and with finals being over on May 14 th I also have the time as I currently spend my days at home preparing. So should I adopt? I would really like for pickles to have her sibling. Thank you. Have a nice day :)

Lilac Crowned Amazon (Bacci- Forever on my shoulder, forever in my heart.)
Yellow Collared Macaw (Loki the Monkey Bird)
Military Macaw (Wingnut)
Citron Crested Cockatoo
(Knuckles)
I would do it.

After my Amazon died, we used to see his sibling at the place where we got him, and it would make me cry. Secretly I always wanted to get him/her, just so I could have the closest thing to Bacci that there was in this world. That baby has since been sold, and I hope will have a loving home.

I would do it. When they both start talking & playing together, it's going to be a blast. So much fun.

Then that's settled I will phone my friend and confirm at a more acceptable hour currently it's 7 am I m not too fond of waking anyone that early on a Sunday. The fids and I are making breakfast and my making I m the one boiling the eggs and whole wheat pasta and they re calling me to come play lol. I do have a question, would pickles know that it's her sibling in the way that we feel a strong bond to our siblings?

Thank you Wendy :) I m sure your fids have something just as delicious for breakfast :). My girls aren't keen on anything that's mushy unless they are being handfed they don't like getting their feet messy lol

Hello Wendy :) How are you?
I know I ll film it so you can all see how she reacts :) I m worried if they hurt each other though. Or kiwi especially since she's a smaller bird. I just dont want anyone to get hurt.

Pickles is under a year old so her sibling will be as well. Perhaps they will still remember?

I'm fine, thank you. :)

I'd introduce them to each other on neutral ground, away from the cage. Just watch their body language. Luckily Amazons are pretty easy to read, and you will know if there is going to be aggression. Remember, they can change moods in a blink of an eye.

Thank you wendy :) I m worried because Pickles cant fly yet kiwi and are sibling are fully flighted. I just dont want a mutiny. Also Pickles is my favourite because she's so tame and cuddly, my kiwi isnt as cuddly but I love her anyway. I hope this new family member will be just as cuddly and tame :)

How are you? I ve gotten the opportunity to adopt Pickles' sibling and with some encouragement from Wendy decided to go ahead with it. I should have her tomorrow morning, howeverI m nervous, would she remember pickles? would they get along? How would the new bird react to my little Kiwi? I m a bit nervous. What can I expect.

You never know when adding another bird. I always tell people to get the bird for themselves and not for their birds sake. That being said,, i've had good luck keep sibling together, even birds that where not clutch mates but still sibling(same parents). If they are as young as your birds,, chances are pretty good they'll get along . Yes ,they will remember each other. If they got along good as babies then they still will in most cases. Some sibling don't get along, i doubt time will change that. Each bird has it's own personality. I'd keep them apart (quarantine) and then intro them in a "nuetral" setting. Don't put one in the others cage or on "their" perch. IMO 3 birds is the hardest number to have get along. More birds or less seems to work out better. With 3 someone is always being picked on or is the outsider. I try never to have 3 zons in a flight or cage/pen, regardless of age.

Thank you Capt. Now I m torn between what to do. I m tempted to phone my friend and politely decline. I m just so worried that with three my little kiwi might get seriously hurt.

I guess I was so focused on wanting to provide a family for this amazon that I forgot that with three birds in a flight cage it may not be the safest thing for my fids I d hate to see any mishaps.

We are doing well! Thanks for asking :) Our fids are happy and healthy. Thankfully I am a stay at home mom. They are a lot of work and require a lot of attention. I ALWAYS have one of them on me even while cleaning house. Plus, we have a 5 year old Yorkie (3 1/2 pounds) Who thinks she is a baby and not a dog. So they keep me busy and happy!!!

Awww you have quite a lovely family. I m not able to own a dog due to my sister being afraid of them. I don't get to spend as much time with my fids as I d like to as I m a full time student studying optometry but the moment I return home we are inseparable. My pickles thinks she's a puppy. She's very cuddly and follows us around the house lol
