I love that picture of her with just her beak showing
I bet that since you are giving her own space in there, she will soon lose interest...not nearly as much fun if it is allowed
What a naughty girl As others have said, that *could* encourage some hormonal behavior and she is going to chew on that wood. My mom's female DYH has an actual nest box and she's happy enough just to hang out in it for a while each day and has not ever chewed on it. She's had it for over 30 years, and it's never caused her a problem. Each bird is different, keep an eye for behavioral changes and use common sense
What a sneaky bird!!!! I have several sneaky birds here too....Willie will climb down the cage and sneak up to the dogs while they're sleeping and attack their paws. The dogs run from him while he's prowling on the floor. Had to put a stop to that so I pad lock his door so he couldn't escape while the dogs are roaming around.
LOL...so far she just looks at me like "what did you do to my hiding place?"...she wants nothing to do with it now..lol..at least not yet. I'm not too worried about her chewing since she has chewed up everything else in there...we are kind of going with a "distressed" wood look since Sassy came to live with us..lol. I will watch for hormonal signals. I tried putting Chico in there and he just flew back to me but when he's out he generally doesn't leave me so that was expected.
