I have had my double yellow head for around 5 years now. He has never said or repeated anything. He is not a young bird. Does anyone have any special techniques of teaching the first word or stories of their older birds suddenly starting to talk? I think it would be so cool if he could eventually learn.

Though some birds may be "known" for their talking abilities- there is no guarantee that a bird will ever talk. :)
Some conures talk up a storm, and some African grey's never say a word!
Do you talk with your bird allot? You could sing to him, read to him, anything really that involves talking.
I remember reading somewhere that if a bird whistles/mimics sounds, they may be less likely to say "real words" because whistling and mimicking is "easier". Not sure how much truth there is to that.

Best thing to do is keep talking to him(saying things you'd like him to say) and love him for who he is. :)
