Hi all! My computer's been down (internet) and since I live out in the middle of nowhere it took a few days for them to come out/fix it. Man, you don't know how much you depend on internet until it's gone!!

So, my last post was Sassy had flown to us and landed beside me. Since then, she has flown to me, every night actually, and either climbed on me or landed on me!!:D I'm soooo happy!!! Of course I am always armed with treats for her. Only thing is she climbs or lands on my shoulder sometimes. I don't really like her on my shoulder but she has never been "aggressive" when she is on me so I am feeling better about it. I don't see her as "aggressive" any time really, except once in a while she tries to go after my cat..lol. Cat knows better and runs!

She still doesn't like to "step up" to my arm so I have been working on it. She did step up with one foot yesterday. She has acted like she was going to bite but not like she used to. It didn't hurt so I left my arm there, where before when she bit, she meant it to hurt!:11:

So here are some more pics (if I can remember how to do this that is...)

What sweet pictures! Sassy is a beautiful girl, and it looks like your patience with her is paying off. Love the one on your head....like she's saying "you'll never find me up here":D

Congrats on making friends with Sassy. A little insight, she likes being on your shoulder because it gives her some control over her situation. In fact she's in control most of the time when dealing with you. Amazons can be very bossy. She is deciding when to interact and how much interaction. In her mind she's "calling all the shots". You need to find a way to make small decisions for her. You need to be the "big bird" not her.

Next time she flies over because you have treats, take her back to her cage, call her to come to you. Make her step up to get the treat. Decide she's had enough before she does. Refuse to let her on your shoulder, don't give her treats until she does what you want.

The problem is she'll go back to biting to reinforce her demands/rule. When the amazon is incharge ,chaos will result. With many parrots like macaws/amazons they are programmed by natural instinct to test if the best/strongest,smartest bird is leading the flock. They don't mind being part of the flock so long as they have good leadership, but they will test to see if that is so. While your relationship with her is still new is the time to get this worked out. It will be much harder to fix after it becomes established behavior. I realize i didn't explain everything ,trying to keep it brief. I'm afraid at this point she's training you, not the other way around. Just my .02 worth.

Is that a open USDA quarantine band on Sassy? It appears so. Do you know how old she is? Could she be an import? Like in her 30's. Have you seen a tattoo under her wing at the "elbow"? easiest to see after a shower. (right side = male,,, left side= female)

Is that a open USDA quarantine band on Sassy?

Hi..the band on her leg is closed and says "HARTMAN 468". I contacted Hartman Aviary in Sunbury, Ohio to see if they could tell me if that's where she originated and they said that yes, she would be one of theirs. I also asked if her age would be accurate and they said yes that would be her approximate age (12 years old). I plan on visiting the aviary as they are open every Saturday in the summer for tours/visitors.
