...LITERALLY NEVER HAPPENS FOR US! I made up some rice and veggies today for lunch. Of course, we couldn't NOT share:20:. Don't know how many of you bring your birds to the table, but this is a "meal in the life" around here-

Kiwi loves his rice:

...And fancy flower-carrots (yes, I was having fun in the kitchen lol)

My husband heated himself up some of those frozen egg rolls, and gave Kiwi a bite (which I reminded him probably wasn't very healthy for the little guy). Check out those eyes though!

He was not quite as impressed with the healthy pineapple as he was the egg roll

He is a polite parrot at least. He showed his appreciation with a hilarious dance

jakiepoo has a stand just like yours. if i'm in the kitchen, she's there making sure everything is good to eat. Of course i have a house full of amazons so when i make rice i have to cook an extra 1/2 cup or so. warm rice with butter is a staple around my house.

Beautiful Kiwi photos. :D

Yep there is never a peaceful meal in our house either. You are either handing something over for them to try or batting away an ever excited parrot who thinks your plate is actually their plate.

Kiwi looks blissfully happy and content.... and oh-so-gorgeous! :D

Amazons and "their" food are quite the combination, aren't they? :)

We share, too, but not ALL birds at once. We take turns with the Amazons and the big macs, and it always turns into a mess-fest. :54:

Thanks for those Fabulous photos! The Amazon Happy Dance made me giggle. I don't have a Zon, but we do share meals with our flock. I made parrot friendly spaghetti one night, I was sure it would be a bit, they love pasta. The bird room was a little too quiet while I was cleaning the kitchen and when I checked on them, my Too and one of my Quakers was enthusiastically draping spaghetti covered in red sauce all over every perch in their cages. At first glance, their cages looked like bloody crime scenes. I'm not sure whose idea it was to start with, but I'm guessing my female Quaker, Harry, was the instigator and Popeye thought it looked like fun. He mimics her actions as well as her vocabulary. She refused to confess. Hilarious mess to clean up, both birds smugly watched me work and showed not a trace of remorse. They still get pasta, but the fresh chunky tomato sauce is no longer a menu option.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
NOPE! ABSOLUTELY NOT... That is where I draw the line. No birdies at the table. (Though my little food oriented Lilac Crowned amazon LOVES to help out in the kitchen, and peers down at my shoulder when I cook.) BUT when ever I cook, they get fed, and they get theirs first. And yeah, always cook extra pasta, rice, beans, vegies, etc. They each get their treat cups... (When I start making the treat cups she does the happy head bob thing... the other birds just perk up and take notice.)

THAT WAY THE REST OF US CAN EAT IN PEACE...

It's amazingly quiet at dinnertime around here, actually. They're usually busy stuffing their little feathered faces.

Love the glimpse into your family dinner time! Like Mark, I feed Bixby first, and then eat at the table without him. But that's not for lack of trying! Lol! Doesn't matter what is in Bixby's plate... he MUST HAVE what I'm eating! And being that I'm a dedicated carnivore... it just doesn't work. Lol! (He always gets especially intent whenever he sees me eating some steak! Haha!)

I grew up with birds who ate at the table, so it's the 'norm' for me. Though, my parents birds waited until they were offered something, unlike Kiwi:20: He used to be a HUGE pest at the table, but he's been banished to sitting on his perch for the past few years because he would crawl on your plate and muck about in your dinner. I got tired of fighting him off with my fork:eek: He's "relatively" well behaved up on his perch, though no angel. Sometimes (believe it or not) he doesn't want what we're eating, so he will just sit there and preen or play with a toy, but he'll scream like a banshee if you put him up. He just wants to be with his 'flock' at mealtimes whether he's eating or not.

LOL "fighting him off with my fork" OMG, I have a metal picture of doing that, VERY FUNNY !!!

Mine was taught if he left "his" plate he would go back to his cage, needless to say he quickly learned to stay on his plate :D

People actually have peaceful meals? What's a peaceful meal? We had pizza the other night so I gave cry baby Buddy a pinch of the crust which he yanked out of my hand, licked and slung on the floor and proceeded to start screaming.

YES! I have found a video clip that perfectly illustrates Kiwi's mentality at the dinner table when not confined to his perch. In fact, the mannerisms (wings, leaping around, even the noises!) of these starving, blood thirsty eagles is eerily similar to my ravenous amazon:52:. This is *probably* the fantasy that plays out in his mind as he valiantly defends the scavenged food he is kicking about on my plate (and he is top eagle). Just insert "human with fork" where the other "lesser eagles" are using talons and beaks:54: (just to be clear, I would NEVER poke or even touch Kiwi with a fork. Just ward him off with it:)).

Mickey - Female U2 age unknown. DNA test came back...he is a SHE,

Tinker 12 yr old female GCC

Chiquita 16 yr old Female U2 and Junior 16 yr old Male Grey
Ours eat at the table also. This is a big deal, because hubby has never let ANY animal near the table at meal times. These guys rule the table, they've turned him into a softie.

Chiquita will refuse food she loves, unless it's on a fork or spoon! She thinks she's a human. Mickey will eat quietly until she's full, then it's run around the table and cause havoc time! Junior is usually on the back of the chair closest to my husband, begging bites of whatever he is eating.

But a peaceful meal???? Who knows what that is anymore? I wouldn't have it any other way!

This morning I'm working so Husband went and picked breakfast tacos and brought them back. Buddy came out to visit when husband left. Husband gets home gives me my taco. Buddy is on my shoulder and is intently watching and I kept watching him to see what he'd do. He walked right up to my taco when I bit into it and he bit into it and got his sampling of the corn tortilla, none of the bean, meat or cheese. We'll he apparently loves corn tortillas because he came back for more and when I went to fend him off I got scolded. I tore off a little piece of tortilla and gave it to him. He kept trying to go for the taco and the eagle video started replaying in my head lol!

Here in Mexico, most restaurants are open patios or have a patio outside for eating. Well behaved pets are always welcomed so ChuChu, my LCA, is a hit with the diners. I set up his portable Tstand with a bed protector sheet underneath and he becomes the center of attention. Some want their picture taken with him and he doesn't hesitate to go with everyone. He's offered many foods with my approval and some he tastes and other's he most definitely rejects with a turn of his beak as if to say, "Oh please, not that." I even heard one diner exclaim as we arrived on my scooter, Oh good, here comes ChuChu!"
