Flight suit for YCA

Good night everyone.
I hope all is well. I ve just been browsing amazon and am considering getting this for pickles my YCA [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00028Y3SK/ref=pd_aw_sbs_4?pi=SL500_SS115]Large FlightSuit (Bird Diaper) w/Lanyard:Amazon

et Supplies[/ame]
Would this size fit her? Does anyone have any experience using this product. Thank you very much

You would have to weigh her to determine whether or not it will the the appropriate size. I know of some members who use it, but I prefer the safety (and hygiene) of an Aviator Harness, so unfortunately I have no feedback on that product. Hopefully those who use it will chime in.

I don't have experience about these, but thinking about the ungodly juicy poops an amazon can produce, is a diaper really a wise choice? I've always wondered if they leaked or how you cleaned them when they got full? Again, don't know much about the product and perhaps there is a great system to deal with the poop aspect, but it's something to investigate before buying.

I will say, amazons are not typically very accepting of harnesses of any kind. Certain species just aren't receptive as a whole to things like that, and amazons are one of them. I would try a traditional harness to start with because they are less expensive (just in case Pickles won't let you near him with it). If you find Pickles is receptive and takes to a harness, then invest in a more expensive top of the line diapered flight suit

pickles has an aviator harness which she tolerates once a lot of head scratches are involved. Generally she likes staying on me as close as possible and hasn't ventured into the trees or even attempted to fly despite the fact she is fully feathered. She had a terrible wing clip as a baby when I got her and although I have let it grow out she's never taken an interest in flying she climbs everywhere. She is bonded to my OWA kiwi who is fully flighted and loves showing off. Do you suppose pickles will one day learn to fly? Thank you very much. Have a nice day

yes you can teach her to fly. How cool your taking her out. I too use the aviator harness, med size for a 500gram YNA. I'd set up two perch stands ,start out close together and move them apart as she learns to "jump" from one to the other. Target /clicker training will help you with that. Maybe Mickey could help , train them both at the same time and maybe she'll "follow" Mickey.

I don't have Amazon experience, but I can tell you about the diaper bit of a flight suit. The material is washable, and there are replaceable, non-toxic and absorbent cotton liners to catch the poop. For little birds they are actually those round cotton makeup remover pads. They work pretty well.

How old is Pickles? Our 16 y/o BFA Kiwi never 'took flight' and climbs everywhere/bothers you until you move him

. I presume he's been clipped since he was a chick (we adopted him when he was 10 and were told he ever learned to fly). We tried a few years back (after letting his wings grow back) to teach him, but he was too scared. If Pickles is still a juvenile, I would start flight training ASAP. They learn easier the younger they are. Of course, I'm sure with a lot of effort any bird can learn, it's just *easier* for a younger bird. Nothing wrong with allowing Pickles to be non-flighted either, so long as she's happy and active

But if you do choose to not clip, a harness is definitely the safe option for outside

pickles is almost one year old she will be one in July 22nd. I don't mind if she only ever climbs everywhere once she's happy and healthy
