I posted the other day about find a couple Panama Amazon babies and that I always wanted one. I have a question though. This breeder has an older baby nearly weaned/just weaned that she says is the most outgoing, brightest, first one to fly, perch, not afraid of anyone. The others are younger babies not weaned yet. I am buying sight unseen having the bird shipped as I don't have any pans near my area. My question is, would I want that personality, sounds like I would, and the breeder said she was holding her back because this baby's mother plucked her and her brother around their neck so they look scruffy. She said it will most definitely grow back, that it is common for birds to do that and that would be her choice pick. Any thoughts or advice? Thank you

No not normal. Lots of red flags IMO. I would doubt how tame it is at this point. Not that it can't be tamed but how honest is the "breeder"? Parent birds usually only "pluck" their young to drive them from the nest. How long have the parents been raising the babies? (my doubt about how tame they are). Plucked areas should grow back although it might be yellow feathers replacing green ones. I assume they are plucked on the back of the head, that's the usual place.

I have doubts about it being a true Pan? Not common and a pricier bird. Often another species(usually YCA) or hybrid. Someone raising Pans for pet quality babies usually doesn't leave the babies with the parents long enough to be plucked.

I would have many ,many questions for this "breeder" . At what age did she pull it? How old is it now? Most zons aren't good with co-parenting(none of mine are and some are pets when they don't have eggs) Where's the pics? How does she know it a hen? Are they banded? How did she know what DNA results go with which baby? I've had amazons lay 4 eggs but never hatch 4 and 4 eggs would be very rare. I don't buy amazons sight unseen, especially babies. Does this breeder advertise nationally? Have references, health guarantee? Loads of info i don't have. Could you give us a link to her ad? I know of 3 breeders with baby pans right now, 2 i wouldn't buy from after researching for just a few minutes. BTW is that baby coming from Ga ? I know someone who will be stopping there for a baby next weekend.

I understand you've paid a deposit, you're at her mercy. IMO that's quite a leap of faith. Hope it works out well.

Left you another PM with contact info for the people flying down to get their baby from that same breeder. They said they would love to talk with you about the breeder.I'd mention my name so they know why you're contacting them.
