So I'm sure many of you saw the rehoming post for the eclectus and BFA in MN...and I went to visit them yesterday to see if either bird liked me.

The eclectus..did not like me at all, however, the BFA took to me quite well and after a long drive...meet Iris! :green:

According to her band, she's 11 (2003) and was hatched at a breeder in MN with the initials PA and her band is #001 so maybe she's one of their first for the year?

She was named Beemer, which is a fine name, but since she doesn't say it I've decided to go with a name that fits my flock a little better.

She's hanging out of her travel cage right now since I didn't get home until too late to deal with her big cage, but I'll be getting that set up in a bit.

She smells like carnations! I can't wait to get to know her better!

Beautiful bird, but what really makes me jealous is the metal bowls.

Boo has figured out that metal bowls make noise and he likes anything that makes noise. So now a metal bowl is immediately dumped out so he can bang it against the side of his cage. Fortunately my local BB&B sells porcelain souffle cups that fit into the bowl holders of his cage. They're too heavy and slippery for him to lift them out.

Good luck with your newest family member!

Congrats and thanks for taking in a zon in need of a good home. Have i met Beemer before? We're her parronts members here? Did he come with his old cage or did you get a new one? Maybe we'll get to see more of you in the amazon section , LOL. She certainly is a good looking BFA.

She belonged to 51flgoose, from this thread. She did come with a nice sized cage and I'm just cleaning up everything right now.

She is in gorgeous feather, very healthy and so far being very good. We're assuming 'she'; her previous home said she was doing a lot of nesty behavior in the springtime, but she's not been DNA'd since they got her when she was only about a year old and they were her first home. I may take her to the vet for a her first nail trim and a touch up wing trim (she's not usually flighted, but is right now and hence she's very clutzy, so I want to get her used to living here before we work on safe flying) If I do that, I'll probably have them do a DNA test...do you think its really important to know? I guess I don't really care unless there are health considerations.

I wouldn't worry over a DNA test, what difference does it make? Buy some toys instead.

Then that's what I'll do. Because it really makes no difference to me or her whether she's technically a girl or not. :)

I got her to take an almond from me and she's all about being where I am. I think that's a huge thing already. I'm just loving her. :)

Yay! I am SO happy to hear Beemer (now Iris) has found a forever home:D I've been watching that thread and admiring her since she is such a beautiful BFA. I was hoping she would go to a forum member. Hopefully the ekkie will find a home soon too.

I agree on the DNA. The bird doesn't care if it's being referred to as a he or she. Using the DNA money for a couple fun toys instead will make Iris much happier than having the vet pluck a feather. The "carnation" scent is likely her amazon odor. They do produce a pleasant odor, so I'm happy to hear you like how she smells (I like the zon scent too). Kepp us posted on the lovely lady.
