Did one of those people I'm not fond of move!?!?

Chilling on the stand..

Kelly is a BIG boy weighing in around 650! We were at the shelter all day yesterday and it was agreed that I would take Kelly home to see how it went for a little bit. They want to make sure that he fits in and Folger is okay with him being around. The funny part was when we were leaving the shelter and saying bye to Jeanne...Kelly said bye as clear as can be:D It was like he was saying I'm outta here!

So far he is doing fine though he was showing my stepfather all the Amazon signs of dislike...so Kelly is being perfectly normal since he did that at the shelter too:rolleyes:

How awesome!! I was just thinking about you and Kelly today, wondering what was going to happen. ;) And now I know!! How funny. Kelly sure is a joy, hopefully everything goes smoothly. Sounds like he's already decided he wants to stay. :)

I hope it works out well Victoria! Would Kelly be your bird? Seems like I remember your mom talking about him? He looks like he wants to come home though :)

When my mom was interested in getting an amazon before Max she looked at Kelly but Kelly pinned, splayed the tail, ruffled the neck, and gave her a hiss....so dislike at first sight haha. But Kelly has been working on me since he got to the shelter I wasn't even vaguely interested in him when he came in. I just wondered what type of amazon he was and that was about it. But then he slowly chipped away at me for the last couple months and I've been trying to convince them to let me adopt him. This is a test run so to speak and probably next week they are coming over and will see how it has gone!

So far Kelly calls for me when I leave, falls asleep on me, and dose the full body quiver to get back to me when I came back into the room after having left! I think he wants to stay so far:D

Congrats on Kelly, he looks like he's pretty young. Don't hog all his attention, try to get him to except others. Now is a good time ,while adjusting to a new home.

Kelly is 33 years old. My mom has been working with him at the shelter too and he will now at least tolerate her for a minute before trying to wriggle away. He doesn't like her but is much more tolerant then before!

The rescue does take excellent care of the birds. Fresh foods everyday, variety of mixes, birdie bread, pellets,...you name it she has most likely fed it at some point. Kelly has only been at the rescue for about 4 months or so and his feathers do look a lot better then when he first showed up.

The pictures though are giving him a more vibrant green color then he really has and the feathers look much more sleek in the pics then they do in person. I think after a molt or two he will have a really vibrant green like the pics are showing but in person he doesn't look like that right now.

He moves in slow motion...is that normal for yellow napes? You would almost think he has arthritis or something he moves so slow!

Kelly is beautiful (and a VERY big zon:eek:). Hopefully, being at the shelter for a while has familiarized him enough with other birds being around that he can at least tolerate the others. Looks as though you may not have much of an option on keeping him though if he's made up his mind. An amazon is not a bird to argue with when they've chosen you;)

Folger and Kelly have been tolerating each other so far:) They were on the stand together earlier and were ignoring each other. Kelly was at the bottom and Folger up top. Should have seen Folger go after Ivory though when I put her on the stand later in the day! Poor Ivory ran for it as fast she could... I guess the naked chicken was intimidating. Then Folger sat and looked all proud of himself for a minute:rolleyes:

And yep Kelly really does look that big in person:eek: It is why I've wondered if he has Mealy in him.

Kelly has been vetted and went through quarantine at the shelter so I wasn't worried about sharing. I was also part of the quarantine process being at the shelter so often:)

Some male Napes just are VERY:eek: large. At the local bird store, there is a pair, and the male is SO giant that I couldn't believe my eyes. I did a double take. The employee said he weighs almost as much as a macaw. The other adult male there I thought was larger than normal also.

I have several older males who move the same way. Both are rehomes , so i can't speak about their earlier history/diet. They seem to move VERY deliberately. I also have several older birds who move around like teenagers when the mood strikes them. Trimming long nails does seem to help , just sharpen a point so they can grip well.

Okay that sounds exactly like Kelly! He moves real slow and deliberate. I have seen him move fast when he is trying to follow me out of a room but when he is climbing around he moves very slow!

So this was Kelly at dinner:D Every time I offered him a small piece he would drop it but still watched me like he wanted to steal my food at any second:rolleyes: Granted he did spend breakfast stealing the bird safe pancakes I was eating so maybe he was expecting more of those!

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Beautiful bird. You have most definitely been chosen... In some ways, the way this bird is acting reminds my of PECKER - my most bonded bird EVER! By the looks of things this bird is well on his way to being THAT with you. How can you not love this stuff?!

Birdman this bird has completely made me fall in love with him! He is really coming out of his shell making noises and showing off. He did try to eat the cat but I can overlook that:p

Another video of this morning shortly after that first video:) My mom startles him awake at first with her camera light but he falls back to sleep pretty fast...

He spent dinner trying to steal my food again. He loves pasta apparently or is that because it is mine:20: I will have to make him veggie mixes with pasta and pancakes with pellets/veggies in them!

Some pics from today! The java stand is the one in my room it is super tall. Kelly liked going to the very top and looking down on us:rolleyes: A little messy I had just finished the cleaning of the bird cages (I've been told I'm the messiest cleaner ever...) and I stopped before vacuuming to force my stepfather to drill plant hangers into the wall.

King of the world!

He also got a bath today so he looked a bit less ruffled then before. He was cursing my mother out for the bath since I forced her to do it so he wouldn't hold a grudge against me:54:
