So he has grudgingly eaten golden obles for me so far that is the only pellet he has eaten. He wouldn't touch a fresh veggie at the rescue but found the other week he has a thing for broccoli!

He still isn't being overly social with other people. Has a dislike for men it seems and will use my mother as transportation to get to me if need be. Will let her touch his beak but not his head right now. So he isn't really aggressive just showing dislike at the moment.

He has been out a lot these past two weeks....and has officially lost about 65 grams! He doesn't look chubby anymore just a big amazon now! His weight this morning was 585 grams.

Kelly climbing the new hanging toy I finally hung up Sunday:)

I did find out recently that he spent 20 years locked in a cage with no out time because he bit his old owner in the face when she had him on her shoulder. This was right around the time he would have been reaching maturity.... He has already learned no shoulder with me before I even knew this information because he is a male amazon and I like my face the way it is when hormone season hits. He likes his new cage but seems to like hanging around outside the cage much more:D He has also gotten much better about displacement biting so to speak. It isn't really a bite but more he grabs me when someone he doesn't like comes around. Learned fast I didn't like it since I would just put him down where I was and walk away from him ....absolutely hates when I leave him behind and go out of sight. Didn't even take a day for him to catch on:)

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
That seems to be both of my zon's favorite veggie too...

Well, frankly, Lila will eat anything and everything put in front of her. Seriously! That bird is a bottomless pit...

Mine will eat broccoli pretty good but favorites are acorn squash, sweet potato, fresh corn and #1 is fresh peas in the pod. I grow sugar snap peas as often as i can. BTW fresh okra is a hit also.

My amazon likes beets, green beans and corn best. They are quick learners and congrats he's a beauty

Kelly is huge! He looks so happy, especially with the broc:) That is also all my 'zons favorite. Wow, 20 years in a cage...he must feel he has been released from prison now. Love the hanging toys...is that in your room? Looks great:)

Yep:D Getting somewhere with setting the bird stuff up in my room. I want a long java stand under the these two hanging things and a net for that area... plus stepfather still has to put together the stand for Folger. I want a 40X30 stacker for Folger and Kelly then I can put stands on top of their cages and maybe some boings above them too.... so many plans just need to get the money to implement them!

Wow, what a fantastic, big room you have!
The fids must love all that light. A Java stand will be perfect under the hanging ones. I like that Java stand in front of the cages as well.

Love the new hanging gym (and I bet Kelley does to, the spoiled thing;))!

Funny enough, Kiwi's favorite veggie is broccoli as well. Must be a zon thing. Is it native to the jungle lol? He begrudgingly eats most fruit/veg, but makes squeals of joy when he gets a chunk of broccoli (anyone else's zon only eat the top part?). He also likes butternut squash, pumpkin, corn (is there a bird who doesn't like corn?), green beans, apples, any kind of berry, grapes and banana. Everything else is "meh, I'll eat it because I'm a piggy but I will give you the evil eye whilst I do it". Amazons are pigs by nature and you can use that to your advantage. Not a popular method, but I do not allow Kiwi to eat freely or else he would not eat enough healthy food voluntarily. He gets produce first when he's super hungry, grains mix second (in your case, pellets) then a little bit of seed or food from the table when he's already pretty full. I don't leave a lot of seed to nibble during the day because I don't want him filling up on it so he's not as hungry when nutritious meals appear in his dish.

It is a little weird that all the amazons seem to be liking broccoli! He tried cauliflower then dropped it like it was poisonous. He didn't really touch the sweet potato and ran away from the green bean like it was going to eat him.

Funny video that my mother took of what she is calling the Kelly and Victoria show...

Some pics of his outside time today! My favorite is the one where he looks like an evil bird.

My uncle brought maryland crabs down with him last night! So had crabs for dinner with Kelly stealing my corn before I got any...

So cute eating your ALL your corn before you got a chance:D And i love him in the bush! He blends in quite well and looks like it gave him *quite* the amazon ego boost to be "free in nature";) Is Kelly non-flighted?

@Skiddles- you can put down paper in the birds areas (like under swings and play areas), but if you don't want them pooping on the carpet, furniture and you in general, just potty train him! They are more than capable of learning how to alert you they need to go, and theres no reason (IMO) not to potty train them:) I know bird diapers exist, but I'm not personally into the idea of washing them:52:

Wow , you had crabs and didn't give Kelly any crab legs. My Jake LOVES crab legs off the blue crabs. Of course we don't use "Old Bay Seasoning" on her crab legs,LOL.

lol he did try crab meat but wasn't overly fond. He looked at the piece of shell that I gave him like it was dangerous. My mothers two liked the shell though...mine is just a wimp for now. We do crabs at least once a year so he has plenty more times to not be such a wimp in the future:) He really does have a thing for pancakes though! My stepfather was using small pancake pieces to bribe Kelly. Worked for a minute until Kelly realized he wasn't getting anymore and then the niceness ended...

Kelly was clipped at the shelter. He drops like a stone...doesn't even open his wings to try to fly. I do want to get him harnessed trained in the hope that when he does get his wings back he can learn to fly but he is such a lazy butt usually that I'm not holding my breath! On the other hand Folger finally has enough flight feathers to make it from one end of the house to the other end! Straight line but he did it....looked around like he wasn't quite sure what happened though:D

Love the video of Jake! She looked thrilled with her crab leg, not so thrilled she was being filed whilst trying to enjoy it;)

Captain... What subspecies is Jake? It looks like she's one of the ones that has the 'lighter green with the bluish tint' as opposed to Kelly who is more of a 'foliage green'.

Both beautiful, but this coloration like Jake I occasionally see, and wonder what it is.

Kelly is gorgeous, he knew who to pick to come with. I love the gym pics too, getting lots of ideas for mine. And Henpecked mentioned okra, I never thought about okra. I bought two yesterday. Got funny looks for two but show a pic of the eater and all looks change. He devoured the okra, lol.

Maybe it's just her "grey" showing through,LOL. She pretty old and has more yellow than any other nape i've seen. She's a parvipes subspecies. Alittle smaller (500 grams) than the usual napes you see and also has the smaller feet. She's going through a heavy molt now and will even have more yellow this time. Jake came from coastal Nicaragua,Caribbean side. Auropalliata supspecies come from the inland and Pacific regions . Seems like coastal zon are lighter in color than the one who live in denser forest/river valleys. (IMO).
