Hi, I took in a yellow naped amazons that was very dehydrated and light.

Good thing is the dehydration seems to be well under control, she responded well to water and pedialite. She is also eating well.

Now she seems to have a wet spot "under" the lower mandible on the feathers. I have a lot of parrots and have had parrots for 35 years. I have never seen this. and I see no discharge form the nostril/cere area. I called a gal I know that is really up on parrots and works in a vets office where I use to live. She has never heard of this and even called her vet.

I live in the country and no veets anywhere near me do birds and with the holidays I really don't have anyone close. She has improved already greatly, but this wet spot is racking my brain. I just gave her a shower and when she will dry the wet spot will be gone??? that's real confusing. But form time to time I look at her and the area under her bead on her throat area is wet, and the size of at least a quarter.

Has anyone heard of this or seen this?

Thanks
Tom

My Ecky sticks her whole face in her food & water dish so the feathers under her beak are always wet looking, the only time they aren't is after a shower before she eats again

Of all the birds I've had I've never seen this. But it is always best to ask a number of people to base info on 1000s of birds not 100s.

Thanks. I was beginning to think I was seeing an issue with my well water. I've never had an issue but when small feathers like the throat area get saturated they look almost a burnt red color. And my water does have iron in it, along with many minerals.

And just to note after her shower she looks great. Still a thin, but she's eat great. Also form time to time an eye lags to open, but open the cage and it pops open. Early on, 1 eye was about shut 100% of the time.

On the eye thing I used my wife's saline solution. A big bottle where I could squeeze it on the eye to flush it. I was rather amazed how well it works. rarely are off the cuff ideas suppose to work so well lol.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Antoinette. Most of the birds I ahve or had in teh past few years are on mett.com. Nothing there to promote, jsut my family type site.

I just redid this PC and all my stuff is all over. I really need to get a lot or my better pics in one main folder online. I have several site, but it's jsut a goofy hooby to fill some of my retirement. HHmm I;m also mett on imagekind,, I think. I have not been there in a long time, but I posted critter pics in their free program.

Ok let me post one, I can find jsut 1 pics.

The greenwinged is Bert, he has a buddy named Ernie. A very nice lady sold me these 2 at a crazy price. bert is a riot calling to ernie and all the things he says. Again mett.com has pictures of my birds. Not a ton, it's more a page about me. METT stands for my family Millie Erica Thomas Thomas. Just 1 pic of each I think. I have not changed it in year.

I use to work at a shop near Cleveland Ohio that did mainly reptiles. I worked as a kid in the 70s and after I retired I went back till my back did not allow it any more. People that had birds i took and kept or found home. The owner of the shop just did nto want birds lol.

So I placed a few and kept to many. It is so funny when someone comes over and will be on my porch for the first time and Bert SCREEMS!

The look on their faces is priceless. Even better if I bring one out. After I get my kitchen done I want to do a bird room in my basement. With a large play area. Sad they don't all get along. I remember having 20 large WC parrots all togther at the shop as a kid. My blue front "Miss Prissy" will attack any and all birds. She is a real spaz. But I love her becuse of it.

Thanks
Tom
