Decision Made...Finally!

I have finally decided to go meet Freddie. Hopefully on Saturday(if it's convenient with the owner) I will drive four hours, meet Freddie, and if everything looks good, I will return with him on Sunday. The way I see it is this....

I have some security with a one month trial if I find that we're not a good match.

I'll worry about Hormones later, if and when needed. Hormonal behavior won't last forever.

It's impossible to see "down the road" with any accuracy. I refuse to let anxiety about all possibilities stop me from trying this. I'm 55....I'll find Freddie a good home, when and if I can't do it anymore. I may live and be healthy for 25 more years. I may develop some weird illness next year...Who knows?

It's a relief to have finally decided. This bird has been "talking" to me for months !!! My husband says that if I had put as much thought into getting pregnant, we'd be now childless... He's actually intrigued by Freddie as well, so that is a plus.

Hi there Sharon. You should not be concerned about your age. You have lots of years left ahead of you. There are things you can put in place for you bird should you or your husband no longer be able to care for the bird. I will send you a link. Most of all have fun.

As for your age, no problem. A dear old lady, in our complex, got an AG when she was 69. Joan is now 89 years old. She lasted longer than the bird. What I am trying to say, is at any given time anyone can "expire".
Anyway it's like having a child around, you been there, done that, worn the t-shirt......

So true! At least with Freddie, I won't have a University education and two degrees to pay for!!!

The trial does help tremendously. I've been researching and behavior can vary drastically in individual birds. Freddie sounds mellow, and laid back...but the horror stories I've read had me a little scared. This way, I can see what he's like with me, in my home.

Why do they not have trail periods with our kids?

I did a lot of research before having children, AND 20 years later I still don't know what to expect !!!!!!!!!!
