Just wanted to ask if he looks healthy from what you can see.
He was in a chicken wire cage and did not seem happy so we had adopt it even though he acted crazy but he is turning out to be an awesome bird except one thing .
The last picture is of him in the chicken wire cage.

What do you guys think ? How old do you think he looks ?

Welcome to the Forum, and many congrats on your BEAUTIFUL Blue Fronted Amazon. :)

Looking at his leg band, he appears to be wearing an 'open band', which could possibly mean he's been imported. He looks mature to me, but there is no guessing his age. And yes, I'm taking a guess here when I refer to him and 'he'. ;)

GORGEOUS bird!! What's his name? I see you can already handle him, that's truly awesome. :D

Thanks , is being imported good or bad ?
We were told his name is Clyde but Im not sure if he knows that ,and I don't think we were told the truth about his history .

We have had him for 4 days today and at first he seemed crazy but the second day I could handle him no problem but mostly with nobody else in the room. I spent a lot of time showing he can trust me and I let him know I trust him ? I guess that's what I did .

I believe he thinks I'm his mate , he got way comfortable with me on the second day.
I can pet him anywhere if he's in the right mood . I almost had him laying on his back .

So far he only says hello and bye bye and a few funny noises

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
It means he was likely wild caught.

He doesn't look that old to me, but how can you tell? My little lilac crowned amazon is 41.

He looks healthy to me. I'd get him out of the chicken wire set up and into a real cage soon.

He is SO cute! :) are you going to keep the name Clyde? It sort of suits him. What a doll! :D

That is a beautiful bird you have there. How lucky for you both!
I'm so glad you rescued him from that other life ;)

He looks to be in perfect health.
Can we have a bit more info on his backstory? How did you come to adopt him?

Awesome thanks , I was told he's about 6 .
We really aren't sure about the name , kind of wanted him to have a new start with a new name but if he knows his name already .

When I went to meet him the guy actually reached in and grabbed him by his feet and pulled him out while getting bit to put him on top of the cage . It was so sad but my wife said I don't think this is a good bird and I agreed so we left but a few days later they still had him so we went to save him .

He seems to love me but doesn't like females although he's starting to like my wife
The one thing we wish he wouldn't do is scream while we're both in the same room .
He's fine with one of us but as soon as we're both in the room he starts screaming off and on . Almost like he doesn't want us to give each other attention .

I really don't know any of his history , they said a family member passed away so it got passed around the family until they decided they didn't want him .

We wanted a tame bird but also wanted to give someone a good home who needed it .

By they way he acts I think he had a really good home at some point .
He really wanted a person who would be gentle with him .

Well he has to be somewhat tame for you to handle him like that but I'm glad he went to someone willing to make sure he gets the best care possible.

Yes , sorry I may have been un clear ,

The chicken wire set up is from his previous home , that's one of the main reason I had to get him out of there , he is in a real cage now with a very large cage coming soon .

That cage was bad

The first week or two will be important. making friends with him now is great. get your wife to interact with him more,ESPECIALLY when you're not around< because he seems to be bonding with you . I think you have a great chance at having a good tame companion. IMO he looks younger, that does appear to be an import/quarantine band but not sure, can you read it? Does it say USDA on it? Welcome to the forum, loads of good info here and great members to help you out.

Beautiful blue front! Congrats! I got a blue front a few months ago from a man who didn't handle her at all and didn't let her out of her cage at all. It took her 2 months to trust me and come to me. Now she steps up fine and we are still working on being able to touch her. You are very lucky! Welcome to the forum!

Wow what a truly beautiful blue front! Does the band have an open part like it was squeezed together or is it a solid unbroken band? It is awesome that he is warming up to you so quickly. :)

The open band indicates he is an import so much older than 6 yrs but amazons can live a very long time and as friendly as he is I wouldn't worry too much about age. How well does he eat fruits and veggies? It will be important to get him on the best diet since there is no telling what his previous diet was. Congrats I think you have the potential for a wonderful lifelong friend!

Beautiful colors! Looks well socialized too, since he lets you restrain his body as you snuggle him. Consider yourself lucky that an Amazon, let alone a new one lets you do that! He must have really taken to you.

He 'looks' perfect :) keep in mind though, even a bird who is harboring a virus, or low grade bacterial infection will still look and act normal. Not saying he has anything ;) But when getting a new bird, and especially when you know nothing about his history, it's good practice to have a vet draw some blood to make sure your new friend is as good on the inside as he is on the outside! A blood draw can not only give peace of mind for viruses, and red and white cell count, but organ function as well, and IMHO that's important when you have an older bird who might not have been on a great diet.

There are breeders here in Canada who also use open bands if the babies are not young enough for the closed bands, so he may not be an import.
He is beautiful, no matter how old he is! I am glad you brought him home with you:)
