As not to hijack another thread I was discussing amazon size on I thought I would start a thread to post pics of your exceptionally large amazons! Not overweight birds, but the big healthy ones. I know theres a couple *GIANT* YNAs on here pushing 600grams and probably a couple DYHs and BFAs who could give a mealy and even some macaws (less the tail) a run for their money size-wise:52:.
Lucy the DYH is one of those "big birds". She was wild caught as an adult, is now well over 45 y/o and has remained a strong, active and healthy bird. She is an exceptionally strong and agile flier, and since the zons have free run all day of the entire house, she flies probably as much as her wild counterparts (and definitely does not "loose altitude" due to her size). While a "well built" lady at around 600grams (also note she is also probably around 15.5" long), she is ALL muscle and one of those birds who likes to be slightly fluffed at all times (making her appear even bigger than she actually is). That is another point those researching amazons need to consider, some like to be "sleeked back" most of the time like my Kiwi is and only fluff on occasion, while others like to be fluffed all the time, and only get sleeked back when their scared. Fluff can make a bird look 2x as big (and intimidating) as they actually are.
Kiwi is not a tiny boy, but Lucy even dwarfs him
(These pics were scanned, thus the poor quality)
Hoping everyone else will pitch in with their own pics of their big boys and girls so we can have a thread to kind of show the size variances you can have between healthy individuals of the "larger" amazon species.
