Binky my 11 month old quaker, brought him home July 11,2014. Olly my o.w.a is 8 years old.brought him home,sept.3rd. :-)
I am so proud of my Olly! To be 8 years old and always been stuck in a cage he is doing sooooo good! Mind you I don't know much about Amazon's,but I have seen so many positive changes in him. But,now I must keep a better eye on the lil booger...I'm use to the bird that was not adventerous, well yesterday I went outside for a few minutes, when I came back in he had busted out of cage, climbed down ladder, got in his treat bowl on shelf under cage, spilt it,I have this huge Ottoman that I put him on with his toys every day and we play, well he had pulled 2 toys off the shelf and didn't make it to ottoman with the toys, but he was sitting up there (on ottoman) pacing making noise, waiting on me to come play. Also I always kiss him on top of his beak, now when I come to him he puts his beak out so I can kiss it and I swear he does it when he thinks he's in trouble or trying to get his way! I love him to pieces! Also it really seems like he looks at me almost grateful for giving him his "freedom"..I've even noticed that when he's peed,he will go out of his way not to bite me,lol..he thinks about it then either gently nudges me or bites my wedding rings instead, like he thinks about it and says no I don't wanna hurt my mommy...yes I know he will again one day...am I crazy? I really think these birds are highly intelligent!!!! :) :green2::orange:

PS.he's also starting to make loud sounds now, which I love! Cause I know he feels comfortable to do so in my home :) and he steps up more often on my arm than he was,he still prefers stick but he's getting more frequent at taking my arm.

They are so mischievous! You can't turn your back for a second when they aren't getting into something they shouldn't. And they are highly intelligent. Olly most assuredly recognizes your someone who wants to be kind to him, and he's going to repay with his kindness (and cuteness!). Kiwi loves kisses too (only he'll give you "french" kisses, like it or not, with his tongue:rolleyes:). I love birdie kisses. It's such a sweet way for them to express love or apology:D

I'll let you take that one:) I think the closest thing I had to a "honeymoon" period with Kiwi was the 4 hour drive home before the reality of the unpredictability of a "rescue bird's" behavior set in (and we did not get immediately lucky on that:52:). I surely wasn't getting kisses after a few weeks of him being home either. Hisses maybe....:31: About 3/4 years in is when things finally started getting good for us:) Perhaps Olly's initial lovingness is a good sign he won't be TOO much trouble later on (they are all troublesome in some way, of course;)).

I also find Kiwi's tongue creepy. We call it a worm tongue, because it reminds me of a wiggly little grub or worm. I know he's being sweet, so I let him give kisses for the sake of not rejecting him. I'm just glad he doesn't have saliva and enjoys star anise seeds a whole lot, which freshen up his bird breath:D

But your bird is named Sassy! We thought it was fairly self explanatory that miss Sassy would be, well, sassy:D:D:D

(BTW I LOVE the name "Sassy" for a female amazon! Couldn't have picked a better one;))
