Binky my 11 month old quaker, brought him home July 11,2014. Olly my o.w.a is 8 years old.brought him home,sept.3rd. :-)
May not seem like a huge deal, but tickled me! Last night Olly was sitting on his rope perch outside his cage(as usual) I let him stay up too late,lol...anyway I looked over at him and said,Olly its night night time.he grunted at me,I said no don't grunt u know its night night time,I see you yawning! About 30 seconds later,I hear him moving around, look over at him just as he's entering the cage door,he stops looks me square in the eyes, grunts and gets on in,sits on his perch and grunted again as if to say ,well come tuck me in,I'm here!! Mind you I usually have to almost force him in!!! :) :). :). :). :) he also snapped at me yesterday, then immediately put his beak up for me to kiss him! He's such a sweetheart! On a bad note...he will be on his cage, next time I'm eating,he decided when I was eating yesterday,( I was sitting in chair by him) anyway he decided instead of having his mixed veggies,he was gonna swipe a piece of steak off my plate! I had to take a stick and knock the steak to the floor to get it from him..lol.

Sounds like Olly's quite the character! It's so funny how they are clearly tired, yet don't want to go to bed. Kiwi does that too.

And so you know, parrots can eat small amounts of meat. Don't make it a habit, but no need to swipe his ill gotten chunk of steak back;) Some parrots also enjoy (cooked) chicken bones. They crack them open and scoop out the marrow. Again, not something to feed every day, but it's a healthy treat on occasion for them:)

Cysticercosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a parasite that is rare, but if you do contract it, it can cause brain damage and death. Pork overall is an unhealthy meat compared to fish, beef or poultry, due to the natural "scavengers" diet of a pig (or the unnatural diet of corn, chemicals and antibiotics fed to factory farm-raised pigs). Shellfish are also not a good choice due to being scavengers and risk of parasites.

Then again, I've been a vegetarian for over 15 years so I'm quite happy that Kiwi is a resolute vegetarian too;) I don't have to worry on that front of what he has been munching on that I wouldn't want to give him a kiss after:D. He rejects my husbands offerings of meat and bones:09: My parents birds will eat bone marrow, but they won't eat the meat either. My mom has watched him before and was quite surprised when he flung his bone to the floor while her birds ate theirs lol. They'll also go after bugs if they see it before you do. I think a lot has to do with how they've been raised and what they are used to eating and recognize as food.

Pork is about the only meat i do buy. I eat eat lots of fish, shellfish, wild game and raise my own chickens ,turkeys, quail, etc. I help butcher organic raised cows for my own freezer and eat about 1/2 a cow per year. We do eat the wild pigs around here but they really aren't all that good, except for the small ones. They do get cooked well done or made into sausage which also is well cooked or smoked. Thanks Kiwi for the info.

I like pork. It's the other white meat ;-) I REALLY like it in BBQ.

Oh goody! Now I'm REALLY craving pork tenderloin cubes on skewers, with onions, peppers and zucchini...smothered in BBQ sauce and grilled to perfection. :32: I know what's for dinner at my house now. :D

My very very favorite food is crab legs! And mostly anything that sucks water :) I am also a huge fan of wild game,my husband is an avid hunter and taxidermist..hmmm...I love deer, cottontail rabbit, frog legs,squirrel,gatortail..but now that I am a bird loving freak,I will never try quail as I originally told him I wanted to.lol..its fun to watch him play with the birds...the big bad hunter and taxidermist.
