I finally got to meet a couple of amazons yesterday, only one of them would step up for me though, but she was a hand-raised baby, a yellow-nape. I was in love. She was feisty, but personable. She didn't cuddle, but I didn't expect her to, being a strange person, she climbed up my arm onto my shoulder and nibbled on my ear gently and I was so happy. She wanted to climb onto my head, but I didn't want her nails to get caught in my braid. so I got her back into my hand. Pure bliss.

Now I kinda want a Zon'. But not one of the "Hot 3" but a Red-Lored, or a Lilac-crowned.

SAVE ME. I'm gonna be living in an apartment when I get my first bird. I want a Zon' but I'm afraid my neighbors may hate me. I was originally considering Pionus, and still am, but then I met the Zon's at that birdstore I visited yesterday. Not one of them was screaming either, actually the White-Bellied Caique and the Macaws were making the most noise. LOL

Or, is there any possible way I could have an amazon in an apartment setting? LOL

Just a bit of a ramble post, and perhaps a plea of advice. xD

I have an Orange Wing Amazon and she doesn't "scream". The lady upstairs didn't even know I had her for about 2 weeks. She only found out because she was walking by my sliding door and saw the huge cage the other day.

She "chatters" a lot in the morning while I'm making her breakfast, then is pretty quiet most of the day until late afternoon when she knows I am making dinner. Then she plays for a bit "chatters" at her toys and goes to sleep.

She is 28 and I've only had her since Sept. 24th, but that has been my experience so far.

Hope this helps. :green:

My RLA and DYH are not screamers, but my OWA and YCA are, and man, they hurt my ears when they do their morning flock calls. You can literally hear them across the alley from my house. I think it just depends on the individual bird.

Good thing you got her out of that cage when you did. I hope she does not have zinc poisoning, or that you've caught it in time to treat. Poor Zilla From my understanding, they have some really good treatments now for heavy metal poisoning, as well as vet RX pelleted diets specifically for birds with kidney or liver issues to help them keep in as good of health for as long as they can. Fingers and toes crossed that Zilla is OK.

I have 2 yellow naped amazons and they are pretty quiet, they talk quite a bit but don't scream very often or for very long
