Kellys Hoodie Came in Today!

I saw Blancaejs thread about the new hoodies for her macaws and had to buy one for Kelly

The instructions had intro steps....I skipped a bunch and days... I threw it on top of him and he walked around with it laying on his back so I put it on him and he didn't give me an issue. Well he almost rolled off the table when he was trying to chew on the string but otherwise he was fine with it!


I wanted an orange one with pumpkins but they didn't sell it in his size He still looks cute with this one though

Green is definitely Kelly's color! He looks very handsome in his new hoodie.

He looks so stylish! What a good boy to wear it too! Can you pleeeeaaaassseee have him call Kiwi and explain hoodies are warm and adorable for parrots?!

I have a couple videos that took forever to upload. The first is me putting it on... in the directions it tells you to give him a treat to reward him but he didn't want a treat...or my mothers hand as a treat...so I took him outside to his favorite tree as the treat! And yes I manhandled my bird

Edit: I feel like I should put a warning on this for new members who don't know birds...the way I'm handling Kelly is something you work on not just try right away. He trusts me to grab him anywhere but that doesn't come right away but with time and possibly never depending on the bird. I can hold Kelly by one foot upside down but again takes time and trust

Oh! I SO want Griffin to wear one!! It's so adorable on the big birds, that I can just imagine how super cute it would be on a small bird like Griffin who already looks like a little gray mouse lol.

I meant to harness train him from the get go at 3 months old, but time just runs away from you when you procrastinate! I haven't even tried, so I have no idea how well he'd take to having something on his body. I know each bird is different, as I've had a bird before who didn't like much touching, yet she let me put a harness on, and other birds who love cuddling with my hands yet won't tolerate "wearing" things. We'll see...

I just now saw the videos. Hilarious! How much did Kelly have to drink?! Lol

I was wondering if most birds would try to chew on it, then I noticed the beads on the strings for that reason. Great idea, beads probably distract them from chewing the shirt.

So, I was thinking that a bird that is used to going into a sleeve, or under a towel, etc. would be a good candidate for these hoodies. I just put Griffin on the bed and had him going into "tunnels" I made with the sheet, and having the fabric over his body and material around his neck with his head sticking out. He was okay, but he did start chewing on it.

Then again, Robin will do that easily with a sheet, towel, blanket, but will completely freak out with a foreign contraption near his body. I've given up doing a harness or anything with Robin, at 20 he can have his way lol. But for my little Griffin, maybe I'll cut a piece of sleeve off an old sweatshirt, and 'practice' with it.

The more I think about it, the more I'm determined to get Griffin into one of these!

Edit: I just saw the website flightquarters.com and noticed that the styles for smaller birds don't have strings on the hoodies . I think they need the strings to chew on. Plus it looks cuter with it.

Mine would never go for that either...

They would fight me the whole way, and stress out over it. Some birds tolerate it. Some actually seem to enjoy it...

AND THEN THERE'S MINE! THAT WOULD BE THE OPPOSITE OF ENJOYING IT!

He's adorable in his hoodie. I'm pretty sure my birds would sweat to death in one.

O, if he isn't ever making the zon squealing equivalent of very naughty swear words at you! Perhaps Kelly would not be the best ambassador for the hoodies after all!

If I even tried that with Trixie (GCC), my hands would look like Freddie Krueger got a hold of them, lol.

That hoodie is precious! And so were the videos i so need some of those hoodies for my guys.

He definitely needs to get used to wearing it! I think they come out with new ones every once in awhile maybe they will make a small one with strings?

Kelly gets more tolerant everyday I still need to get him in a harness though I doubt he will ever be allowed to fly with the aggression he shows to other people.

It's cute, but I'm afraid Larry would choke himself to death.
