Hi everyone. 3 years ago I adopted a yellow crested Amazon. I assumed he was a he because the previous owner named him "oscar". I renamed him "pickles", but that is beside the point. Anyway, about a year and a half ago, during the spring, she laid an egg. Last month, 18 months later and in the early fall, she laid two more eggs that I found at the bottom of her cage.

I have read that they are hormonal during early spring but she seems to be hormonal a lot!!!!

Over the past 3 years I have been bitten several times. Twice on the lip and once right under my eye which required 5 stitches. She bit my finger once and wouldn't let go, resulting in a spiral fracture of my bone. OUCH!!!! Obviously, I am not as "hands on" as I used to be and I miss our relationship but not at the expense of losing an appendage or an eye!

She is a sweet, smart girl and I love her. She used to be out of her cage almost all of the time, but now that I am afraid of her she is mostly in her cage. I still talk to her and give her showers and pet her head through the cage but I feel sorry for her. She calls for me and gets so excited whenever I come home and go to pet her. I am at my wits end how to repair our relationship or where to go from here.

Any recommendations on how to rebuild our relationship so that she can be out of her cage more? And why is she laying eggs although I don't give her a nesting spot and don't over stimulate her?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Attach toys to the top of her cage ,let her climb out and about. When its time to go back in make her step up on a perch. Have her with you in the kitchen or wherever [move her around with that perch]

Thanks pink! I will try that again. I have a large play gym with a perch that is on wheels, but she won't stay on it! She finds a way to climb down then she tries to climb up my pants. She is so silly. She wants to be on me all the time because I used to allow it but have become fearful. I will try to find some sort of perch that she will stay on, but then she will probably just fly off, knowing her. She is quite the explorer. She even climbs into the dishwasher when I unload it and uses it as a jungle gym. Ha ha!
