Hi there! I'm new here as you can see and I wanted to be part of this network to share my experience with my foster amazon parrot. I have many years of experience with Amazon Parrots, but never actually had one of my own. When I came across a post looking for a foster home a 21 year old Mealy Amazon, I felt compelled to help. She needed to go to a home without other birds, due to a condition she has. Here is her pic :)

She is a great bird, Mealies are so melo and cuddly and she is no exception. Her name is Sprite! She needs some extra attention and monitoring as she has occasional seizures due to her condition. Thankfully, she hasn't had any yet under our care.

Thank you. And yes I have. She gets to spend hours out of the cage, eats lots of fruits and veggies everyday and she is on Harrison's Adult Lifetime Coarse Bird Food diet - that stuff is expensive! She is also is doing some "modeling" :) I sent her pic to a contest where the top 12 birds will be featured on a calendar and If anyone is willing to vote, all you have to do is LIKE her pic on Facebook http://tinyurl.com/ka34c45 :) She is currently in second place, the grand prize winner will received a gift card to a bird store which will be much needed!

Yes :) I've been a friend to the rescue for some time now, but never really adopted or fostered from them before. Our intention was to foster a few birds to help the rescue, but in Sprite's case, she can't be around other birds, so my home was ideal. And sadly she may not live for long, so it may be best that we stay with her :( We are taking her to the vet to find out if there are any developments regarding her health. So we are playing this by ear.

I find it PHENOMENAL that you took in Sprite (even if only to foster...for the time being)!!!! I'm aware of Sprite's 'condition', so I truly take my hat off to you!!! :smile015:

I've known Dan for a couple of years, and LOVE what he does, how he does it, and how he approaches things. :)

Kudos to you for fostering this pretty girl! They really seem to understand that they're finally loved, and respond in kind.

That's how I started off with Sammy (in my avatar). He quickly became a fixture, then a permanent member of the family (I'm known as a "soft touch" in the local animal rescue fraternity - I was asked to 'foster' Sammy and, a few weeks later, when asked how he was doing and I said "Great!", they said "Good! You've adopted him - we already signed the forms for you!!").

I'm just too soft-hearted to ever let fosters go. I fall in love with them, and they with me, and, well, it's a done deal.

Sprite is gorgeous! I love her name. You are so kind to give a loving home to a bird with a serious illness.

Thank you all :) Now if I can just get her to shower :) She has really improved since shes been here, all the attention and scratchies has made her feel loved and cared for :) I'm glad she trusts us now. The interesting thing is that her medical papers say that she was a wild caught bird, not sure how they would know. Any ideas?

Does she have an open leg band? I believe open (vs closed) bands are a sign that the bid was imported and quarantined at some point. That could be a clue.
