Hello new owner and I was wondering what it may mean when my orange winged Amazon stands on one foot and spreads his tail feathers. We have had him for a month now and he does it when he is in cage or on top whenever I walk into the room.

--PUMPKIN - male YS GCC. Hatched Halloween Day 2014. Came home Jan. 4, 2015. Started talking in July '15!

-BUTTERNUT- female TYS GCC Hatched in late Jan. 2016 and came home March 14, 2016
When my gcc does this its because hes comfortable and about to preen. Not sure with other species. Just the tail flaring means excitement usually.

The pinning eyes can be either excited & happy OR Pissed off, you just have to learn your bird and it's moods. Zilla does it both when happy, excited and when she is mad.

Oscar's eyes pin/flash like crazy when he is eating a tortilla or if he see's somebody eating something he wants! Definitely pins when he is happy! :) I know, soon enough, I will experience 'Oscar the Grouch' and he will show me his angry eyes!

Welcome to the forum. IMO OWAs are a little different than other zon species. They have that puffy cheek that other zons don't. I've never noticed that when they are aggressive only when happy/excited. The flared tail and pinned eyes could mean either excited or aggressive. I would say aggressive is not a normal trait of OWA. I love OWAs their personality is so different than the common Yellow Front subspecies.
