When do the Zon's usually molt? and is it more then once a year?

Today I found a tail feather in the cage - I left to pick up the kids and got home and there were two more. The kids were just cleaning the cage and there was another!

Is this normal?

I have had Oscar for about 6 weeks and he has lost a couple smaller feathers here and there - the kids have been collecting any they find (except the fluffy floaters).

I just wasn't expecting to see so many tail feathers today!

Do they usually molt in large clumps like this?

Sounds like Oscar is just starting a molt.....

Probably should prepare to be inundated because your feathered friend has some 2,000+ feathers, including those fluffy floaters you & your kids'll be able to collect in the near future.....

Enjoy your collecting.....

lol fun times ahead!!! :) The kids will be busy!

So is this the 'usual' time for them to do this? I was looking back on some of the other posts and most seem to have happened in December - perhaps it varies by location/temp/daylight hours etc?
