Orange-Winged Amazon ~ Marley
Ok so I hope im not getting on anyones nerves but ive had Marley 3 weeks. He is bonding with myself and my wife he lets us touch him pretty much all the time now and come onto my arm with some food bribes.

BUT he is still quite as quite as a mouse!?!? I was thinking amazons are pretty loud and even if u get a quite one they still get loud evenings and mornings??

He makes his cute pigeon noise and thats it lol only other sounds ive heard is when he sneezes or has the hickups lol

Is this normal?

Zilla 29 Y.O. Orange Wing Amazon
Zilla is a really, really quiet bird. I expected a lot more noise from her.

It took her about 2 months to really start making much noise at all, and she doesn't do the morning and evening "flock" calls at all. She really only makes noise when she "sings" to the radio or I can sometimes get her going when I talk to her.

Buddy is 25 yo and when we brought him home in March of 2014, I remember and remind Husband of what he said to Buddy. He said, "Buddy, I like you, you're quiet." I said nothing and shortly after, Buddy started getting noisy. Now, Buddy is loud from sun up to sun down, and after, lol.

While he got noisy quick, there were things that took time for Buddy to share, one item, he has a large vocabulary but only say "Hello" clearly and we've heard him say "Wow", and "Buddy is a good boy." It may take some time, I think they have to gain a comfort level.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Both of mine are fairly quiet.

Pecker was pretty demonstrative, as was Bob... but the other six or so were all fairly quiet as well. OWA's tend to be on the shy side for amazons.

Awww Marley is so cute:) Some amazons are pretty quiet. My moms GCA is VERY quiet. He only gets excited when you say "walnut", "pecan" (his 2 favorite treats), or he occasionally calls out for his "girlfriend" if she's been out of his sight for too long. Other than that, he's silent.

Whisper is pretty quiet - thus the name but he does have his moments. He didn't get his moments for a while though. :D

I am so jealous that he steps up for you without trying to bite your arm off. Keep up the good work.

And pink and orange are put together a lot...glad though that you covered up.

My OWA Kiwi took a couple of months before she opened up. I have noticed OWA's are typically on the shy/reserved side, and they tend to open up only on their terms. But that may differ.

Kiwi however was very shy and reserved when I got her, and she still is, but much less. She only makes loud jungle sounds whenever she hears much noise going on in the background, or when I have many people over, or whenever i'm watching a movie on loud volume, And when I have the radio on, childs channel on etc etc. Try that with him and i'm sure he will let you know whenever he feels like screaming. Cause all Zons do! :)

What a good boy Marley is being stepping up for both of you! Kiwi will step up to my hand, but generally prefers my arm or the stick. I have small hands and he has big feet so it's a bit awkward for him to get on my hand (unless his beloved flapping exercises will be involved, then he gets right on so I can hold his toes:rolleyes:). So long as he steps up for me, I don't mind offering my arm instead of my hand. It looks like you're making great progress with Marley, and I have to say I'm not sure I've ever seen a bigger grape lover than him lol. He really likes them huh?

In middle school, I had pink and orange streaks in my hair (much to the dismay of the nuns at my Catholic school). I thought it was a pretty cool combination though:D

Yeah Marleys cage and play stand are in the living room of my apartment so he has 12ft of windows to look out over the desert and a TV on every evening and i sometimes leave music on for him during the day :)

Don't even get my started on grapes.. i need to start weening him off them there really expensive here in dubai lol and he goes crazy for them! sometimes won't eat anything and just sit there making his usual pigeon noise waiting for me to give him a grape.. i think he knows eventually il feel bad and give in! its so difficult to not feel sorry for him with his cute little poses LOL!

i bought him a nut and seed mix today which i have now stopped him eating them unless he has stepped up and let me walk around with him :)

I am not sure if its the same for Amazons, but Greys take awhile to start talking (and some birds NEVER talk). My Congo African Grey didn't utter a word until he was a bit over 18 months old. I just looked back on your posts and saw that you were told Marley was about 2yrs old but you thought he was younger. If he is younger he just might not be ready to talk yet. :)

No i just open the windows and turn on the normal 50W bulb lights in my home but i do have a reptile lamp that i used for my turtles… i didn't get from your question if it was a bad thing or good thing for a flourenrecent light?

today he seems to make his pigeon noise quite abit. my wives been at home with him all day for the first time and apparently he hasn't shut up but only doing the one sound :)

Reg, my DYH Amazon is a really really quiet bird, if the phone rings he yells "HELLO?!" and he makes this really odd honking noise when he wants something, other than that he is super quiet, if you're lucky sometimes you'll hear him mumbling conversations to himself but if he knows someone can see or hear him he stops.
So far none of my birds scream (I feel lucky, knock on wood)

Kooka, my african grey talks non stop from sun up until sun down....I mean literally non stop he is blabbering "c'mere bud!" What 'ya want?" Stop it" and so on and so on lol.

My macaw so far only really makes any loud noises when I put her to bed, she doesn't seem to like bedtime.
