Double Yellow Headed Amazon named Oscar.
Congo African Grey named Turbo...RIP
...but not with me!!
I know it happens, and its a chance we take when there are multiple people living in the house with a bird...but still...its a bittersweet feeling.
I got a 100% validation of this lastnight. It was almost midnight and my nephew was sound asleep on the loveseat in the living room. I was still up baking (I am a home-baker). Anyway...I was cleaning up, and the last time I went through the living room Oscar has been asleep but the top of the cage was still open.
Well.....awhile later I knew he was up again because I heard him crack a nut open. A bit later I heard the flutter of wings and Oscar flew and landed by my nephews feet! Oscar starts talking and talking, chattering like crazy! I went over to pick him up and he wasn't having that at all!! He kinda ran at me, all puffed up, striking at me. Yikes! First time I have ever seen him do this. I carefully woke up my nephew so he wouldn't kick him and the look on his face was priceless! lol As soon as my nephew started talking, Oscar again started up this long crazy conversation, saying 'new' things we hadn't heard yet!
Yep, its love!!
Everytime I came near my nephew, Oscar wanted to eat me. lol
I told Santino to try and pick him up but he is still a bit afraid of that big ole beak!! lol He would get kinda close but not close enough for Oscar to put his foot up on his arm. Anyway, I had him get a perch and use that. He hopped right up. I took the perch from Santino to walk Oscar back to the cage and as soon as I took hold of the perch Oscar went and tried to strike at me.
Sadness.... Happy but jealous feelings over this. I knew this could happen so I am OK with it. Out of all of the kids, Santino is the one that is truly interested in the bird so it works out great! He has a forever home with him!
On the flip side - I got him to eat a piece of hard boiled egg today! It was white like his tortillas that he looooves so when he saw it he immediately said Cracker! I told him it was an egg, yummy egg. He took it in his beak and dropped it. I tried again. He saw it and said Cracker! I told him again is was a yyuuuummmy egg but he still spit it out. On the 4th time of playing this game, he kept it in his beak and then held it with is foot and ate it up!! yipppeee! Its not a veggie but its something new!
I did find out that he might be closer to 20-22 years old rather then 30 yrs. His original owner was going to talk to his mom and find out his exact age. His owner said that Oscar does indeed say a lot more then he is saying right now - - some of the additional phrases are Meeerrry Christmas Ho Ho Ho! Hey baby! I love you! and a rooster crowing. LOL It was definitely Hey Baby! that he said lastnight when he was talking to my nephew. Couldn't figure out what all he was saying - but yes, he does say HELLO with a British accent!! He says hello in a couple different pitches and stresses different letters. Its funny! I need to get a recording of him!
Ohhhh - he is also going to as his mom if Oscar was really ever DNA sexed a boy or not....he wasn't sure. He said he always thought he was a boy because he looked like a boy. Oh boy! lol
