Lucy keeps shaking when I come near her.

Lucy, my bfa, has been shaking for the past two weeks when I come near her. She has also been flashing her eyes at me. It's been four months since we've been together, so I know there is still a ways to go, but is she afraid or is she sick? Do birds usually shake when they are afraid? She will step up on my arm and will be content and loving, but many times when I suddenly walk in the room, she will start shaking. I'm a little confused with what's going on. Anyone have any thoughts?

To me it sounds like Lucy gets VERY excited/happy when you enter the room.

If she's eating, playing, and pooping normally otherwise, I wouldn't be too overly concerned that this is a health problem. Of course if in doubt, have her checked out.

My Hunter gets all quivery depending on the time of day it is when she sees me (or other family members), and she's most definitely doing it out of sheer excitement.

Does she bend down low to the perch and sort of fuffle her wings and body, eyes pinning wildly ??? She loves you. You're the one. Pretty typical hen zon behavour. If it where a little brighter light/earlier in the day, i take a short vid of some of my hens doing that and show you what i mean. Maybe in the morning.

Yes she does! And she also crawls down from her cage and climbs into bed with me in the morning lol.

Becareful about the bed. Several reasons,, many companion birds are crush/suffocated in beds. Not a good plan. Zons have a issue with nesty spots and at times becoming aggressive/possessive . Don't encourage hormonal behaviors and you'll have less issues with them. Just my .02 worth. The topic in this thread is hormonal in nature, BTW.

Oh, okay. Yea sometimes she tries to get a little too close lol. She is a very jealous girl though. If my parents or siblings try to come in my room for any reason, she has tried to snap at them. She's never bit them, but she does snap. I'm moving out on my own in a month, but for now, I try to keep them all out of my room.

Instead of keeping your family OUT of the room, you should encourage other folks to handle your Lucy.

I understand Amazons can show misguided aggression, where they can do displacement biting, however, socialization is such an important part in Amazon ownership. At least IMVHO.

They need not be one person birds. Both my Amazons willingly and happily go to each and every family member.

Unfortunately, my family is too afraid of her to do that, but my mom will go in and talk to her sometimes. Lucy has learned to trust one of our dogs somewhat. I wish my family was more involved with Lucy and my conure, Neptune. But they are not.

That's a shame. They are happiest with a large flock/ family. Even if they don't like everybody,it's still an enrichment to interact. Socialize,socialize.
