We did a fruit dinner the other night, lots of interesting fruits (and a few "rare" melons). One of these fruits in not like the others though:

There's something yummy in here, Kiwi knows it!

Ooh I LOVE melons :D!! The birds aren't interested in it, but it's a favorite food or snack of mine.

Every year during the peak melon season, I take advantage of trying whatever different types I can find. One of my favorite things to do with melon is to freeze it. Well... cut it up first, or you'll have a bowling ball :). It's good either cut into bite size chunks, or a slice with a stick in it. Most melon is textured like a Popsicle when frozen. It's a great texture when half way frozen too.

Some of my favorites are Casaba and Galia. I've only found one good Casaba so far, but the season is just starting. I haven't seen any good Galia melons yet. I have YET to find a Sharlyn melon at the store (when you see them) that isn't overripe and going bad :( and I've been trying to get one for many years! I need to find a weekend farmer's market where I live now.

I see you have a Santa Claus. I think I bought one once, but I don't recall what it tasted like. I don't think I was too impressed. Or maybe it just wasn't a good one.

Did Kiwi select a white nectarine? If so, he has good taste! :)

What a fabulous array of fresh foods!! I love how inquisitive Kiwi is! :D I also admit, there are some melons on your table that I've never seen around here. Will have to keep my eyes peeled at the farmer's market next time.

I love melons to but I just get the "standard ones". I had never seen these melons, but when I stopped in a store I don't normally shop at, I just had to try them! The Santa Claus was not impressive, but the sun drop and other one (of which I cannot remember the name) were delicious!

And yes, Kiwi did in fact maul the nectarine;) but what he went REALLY nuts for was the pineapple (not sure he recognized the whole fruit). He LOVES pineapple!

I hope you only gave him the "core'. Don't want to spoil him. Mine only ever get the core from the pineapple. They like the crunchy part.

Is there a reason he can't have the regular part:confused: He eats quite a bit of pineapple, as do my parents birds.

No reason they can't have, other than the fact it's the best part.

Awww... you don't share the best part of the pineapple, even with Jakiepoo?

See, mine will eat some melons.

Cantalope and watermelon are particular favorites.

The green melons are a sometimes we will, sometimes we turn our beak up at it.

Mango is a yes. Papaya is a sometimes. Anything berry... Yes! (Blue, ras, cran, boisen, straw)

Pears are generally a yes. Peaches are generally a yes. Apricots are generally a yes.

Apples are a "watch your fingers food" GIMME IT!

Tusk, Lila, and Maggie also like Oranges. My other two won't come near a dish with orange in it. Get that thing away from me...

None of mine will even touch the pineapple. I've offered it before... All five of them just turn their noses up at it.

In Cali we had blueberry bushes, strawberry plants, and wild raspberries and blackberries... picked fresh from the garden.

(And wild manzanita for homemade perches and playstands.)

Out here, not so much!
