Good Day to all parrot lovers:

I am planning to increase a member to my family (Amazon Blue head) from my friend, but he told me that his bird only eat the fresh sweet corn for his main diet. I have experienced to switch seeds to pellets but i have no idea how to turn the birds diet into pellet from fresh sweet corn?

I hope any experiienced friends here can help me out of this problems.

Thanks Guys!!

Hi and welcome! I beleive the parrot you speak of is a blue front amazon. Great birds!
A sweet corn diet is a horrible diet and has no nutrishinal benefit. I would start with a good high quality pellet diet. Mix some of the corn in a stir it around. Hopefully by picking through to get the corn he will try the pellets. You can also mix the pellets wit warm water or juice and add some corn. Many birds will try the moist pellets served warm. Make a birdy bread with lots of mixed veggies, corn and pellets and some fruit. Try serving warm. If he gets the chance to try different things it will peak his interest.

Hi and welcome to the forum, not sure if thats a Blue Front Amazon or a Blue Headed Pionus, I guess it doesnt really matter for the sake of answering the question, if a majority of the birds diet is strictly corn I'm fearing he may not live much longer unless you can get some more nutritional food into him, I would try at the very least introducing a wider variety of fruits and vegetables, then you can experiment with things like cooked brown rice, cooked beans, nuts, leafy greens, some seed, exclude sunflower seeds and also try different brands of pelleted food to see if something is appealing to him, the key here is to get him eating foods that have more nutrition than just corn which is mostly liquid, there are many websites on the net that have good diets for Amazons......Good Luck, keep us updated on how things go :)

Hi,
i have had to change many a diet in my years working with rescued birds I remember a sun conure that was sold unweaned a family fed it as instructed mashed potatoes and creamed corn and the likes Poor bird never knew what a seed was or a nut. Not to mention the behavior issues UGH.

I have found one of the best means is by offering a bird bread with healthy stuff mixed in as well as making things a game or toy (those little skewers you can buy and add things to them yourself fruits veggies etc
as well as clipping Greens and such on the cage or sticking them in bars or on play stand etc.

Also sharing a meal (or all meals) with the bird and eating and offering healthy things and making it a big Ohh that yummy or ummm umm that's good keeping it light and easy.

My bird bread I use is made with Pro Grow Bird bread as a base and i add in Goldenfest mixes and some fresh carrots and sweet potatoes as well as baby food of the applesauce sweet potato and other things and i add in my own herbs and spices etc.
I bake
i chop and place in freezer paper and bags some i do real small in parchment paper and make a sort of foraging toy

There are also many great recipes around for bird breads and many are great just use caution as some call for a prepared corm bread mix like Jiffy they carry a lot of sugar and salt and I would steer clear of them

If you need more help yell I have oodles of recipes and such.

Just keep it fun and well it is a lot like a toddler who refuses to eat a certain item :0) Trick them into it :0)
