Is eye pinning always a bad sign? I know when there is eye pinning, tail flaring and head feathers poofed up, that is a huge stay away sign.

But Davy seems to pin his eyes when I talk to him, and when he is watching youtube with us (mostly when there is a Amazon on the TV) and lately he does it a lot when he gets close. They don't stay pinned, usually going back and forth fairly rapidly.

Nah, could be a sign of happy excitement. My Parker (male eclectus) pins his eyes when he gets a treat he particularly likes.

Ditto to what Chris said. My Zons both pin when they listen to me talk/sing. And what you describe, the contraction and then relaxation of the pupils is a sure sign your Davy is paying extra close attention to you and his surroundings. :)

My BFA pins are simply a clue of impending emotion; whether he considers me friend or foe is soon apparent! Fanning of the tail and stance fills in the blanks!

Thanks Chris, Wendy and Scott!

That is what I thought, the feeling I get from him when he was doing that wasn't aggressive. Still learning his moods.

I have been bit quite a lot this last week, I feel like we are not making progress, then he calls for me when I leave the room, gets excited when he sees me and once in a while lets me scratch his head.

Life with a 'Zon, huh? :)

No. It depends on the rest of the body posture. If he's standing straight up and down, and pacing back and forth, that's happy bird... (Angry bird is hunched over.)

Sometimes it's excitement/happy to see you.

Sometimes, it's flirting.

Sometimes it's play/interaction.

Just watch out for "Amazon overload."

Yes Birdman666, he is up and down, pacing and making his cooing and or mumbling to me. Or he gets very close as I talk, like he is listening to me, eyes dilating and pining.

Today he was calling for me for about 15 mins, and i was just across the room on the couch in full view, and I walked up to him and he instantly jumped on my arm, he has never done that before, I was a little worried and he moved quickly up my arm to my shoulder and pressed his beak to my cheek, then ran back to his cage. I normally don't have him on my shoulder, as i don't want my face bit.

So over all I think we are getting better, I back off when he displays signs of that 'Zon overload (usually, still learning!)

Great clarity in what your Amazon is doing, easy for others to comment on and still better, others to understand and learn from.

Keep-up the great work. I believe it was Henbecked that stated to keep them wanting more. Just remember that some days will be large steps forward and some may be a step back.

A quick contact call from across the room or the other side of the house will reinforce that part of the relationship. Avoid reinforcing screaming.

Amazon have more fun!

Yeah.

That's definitely I want attention mode...

When Sally presses her face against my cheek like that it usually means give me a head scratch...

Pecker was even less subtle about it. She used to press her entire head into my eye socket with her head feathers raised... :D

I'm with Scott and Wendy on this..Amy does the same thing especially when she knows she is going "outside,in the car" one of her favorite things she loves to do.
