Blue Fronted Amazon - Davy Jones (FKA Buddy) Adopted 6/2015 @ 5 yo.
Blue and Gold Macaw Harley Quinn (FKA Harvey) Adopted 11/24/2015 @ 15 years old
So Davy seems to be settled in the house hold routine very well, even with me going back to school full time. We usually leave Pandora on for him, so he has classical and instrumental music to listen to.
Davy seems to have bonded with me, he calls for me when I leave the room, comes to toward me if he needs reassurance etc. He has letting me preen his head, for about 10 seconds lol, from the top or on the door of his cage.
He is still is so afraid of hands. He absolutely will not entertain stepping up on hands. He will walk on my arm to get a treat, but if I move away from the cage, even an inch, he freaks out and gets to his cage however necessary. He is afraid of sticks, and he will fly to get away from them.
I have had him for about 3 months, and from the scared bird he was when we first got him we have made great progress. I just feel we are at a stand still. I would so love to get him to step up and hold him on my hand/arm even shoulder eventually. So moving him from his cage to another to clean etc wouldn't be this stressful ordeal.
Advice? just be patient and keep on keeping on? lol
