The one thing that Kiwi was not the best at was getting her to eat fresh foods, especially veggies...

I've had to hide them in things to get her to eat them.

Today for the first time, I made a fresh mixed veggied chopped, and she dug right in and devoured them just like the rest of the fids... and I even gave her a little extra once she emptied her bowl.

IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE, EH?! MY BIRD ATE ALL HER VEGGIES...

You folks get this one. No one else I attempt to share this with would do anything other than roll their eyes... so I'll share it with you guys and then shut up about it. But it's one of those "little victory" moments.

It looks like we've turned the corner on this one.

Persistence really pays off, right?

I know I'm VERY lucky that all three of my amazons readily eat almost everything I give them, vegetables included, and Lola, the only girl, loves everything I give her, she's tiny but has the biggest appetite!

I've still got to recall her once her wings grow out, but other than that, we're all trained up now. This was the last thing I needed to accomplish with her, and it actually took the longest.

I need to work on recall training with Sydney now that he's started to fly, my only problem is he only flies when he's going to bite me!

I totally understand, Mark! It's good reason to celebrate when a reluctant parrot dives beak first into a bowl of chop, a moment worth waiting for.

I'm happy to hear Kiwi has decided to eat her veggies.

Way to go Kiwi (& Mark)!!! :D I can virtually see that big smile on your face!

I'm so thrilled that she blended in with your flock just about instantly!

Congratulations! This is why I love having a parrot forum... you can tell others about stuff like that and everyone else just gets it without looking at you like you've got a screw loose. Yay Kiwi!

Thanks for giving her a good home.

She's been a doll since the moment she arrived. In many ways, she is like having my beloved BFA (Pecker) back. She gives me back so many of the same daily interactions and mannerisms...

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Mark, when I first go Smokey, the Timneh, she was wild caught, and at the time I Really didn't know anything about "parrots" and when I gave her veggies and fruits and such, she would cower in the corner of her house and growl like a pack of wolves
This went on for over a year..all she was interested in was seed < I had bought her impulsively from a pet shop, and that's all she was fed>

Then I got a subscription of Bird Talk, and wanted to add another birdie, and after meeting a friends blue front <Apollo> and reading up on 'zons,I found a "breeder" of BF's,and got Amy,she was 16 weeks old.
It was AMY,who taught Smokes about the goodness of trying things! Smokes would watch as Amy munched on all sorts of nummies..from fruits and veggies, pizza and chicken bones,macaronies..you name it.
One day Smokey must of thought..."hmmmm...what is that stuff that green bird is munching on?"
After that, she ate EVERYTHING!! As hard as I tried tho,she didn't learn it from ME lol
