Inside the crack, is it more beak or is it down to maroon fleshy looking stuff?

Keep his beak clean, don't let food get caught in the crack. If you can see the flesh, try to get him to a vet and checked up to make sure it's not infected. The one time I had to deal with this, the vet wanted to put super glue in the crack. This was not an avian vet but emergency overnight clinic. I don't recommend this, but the vet may do something similar to seal the crack to keep the inside clean.

The crack will grown out with time. If it's not a deep crack and doesn't expose the flesh, you can just make sure it's clean and he isn't in a situation (like another biting bird) that could make the crack worse.

I can see the crack you're speaking of, and yes, it does look like it could have been caused by another parrot. I don't think it's deep enough to be overly concerned, especially because you said he has a good appetite. Time WILL heal this crack. Do not touch it, do not mess with it. As a matter of fact, just don’t try petting him or picking him up for a little while. Let him become comfortable and at ease. That won’t happen overnight, especially because of what he’s been through (with a human).

(I still advise to take him to a vet when you locate one..as soon as possible)
