Soooo my mother for her birthday is treating herself for a YCA that she has absolutely fallen in love with. Unfortunately I still live with her so my previously declared "no more birds" has been invalidated :8_grim: . The same person who is buying this zon also told me stories about how zons are demon birds and will attack lol. Ever since I was a child she would tell me of the demon zon and ever since I've been terrified of them. My question is: what are zons (specifically YCAs) like? I don't want to live in fear of this bird, help me quell these fears! I have had little interaction with amazons because of this fear... I've only had physical contact with one today when he decided he wanted to come up onmy arm and I immediately put him back down (progress...? Lol).

My YCA George, who was with me for 40 years, was usually very cheerful and friendly, but he didn't like being handled (he was already nearly 30 years old when he joined my family, and had at least three previous homes). He had his "grouchy parrot" days sometimes when he didn't want to be bothered at all. By no means was he a "demon bird," and he never attacked anything but his stainless steel cowbell; he used to fight with that quite often (and always won). :D Of course, no two parrots of the same type will have exactly the same personality, but I think George was fairly typical of YCAs-- though many do enjoy perching on their human friends, which George did not.
